DANNY Tickle is expected to make his debut on Sunday when Leigh are officially crowned Kingstone Press Championship table toppers for a third successive season.

But the former Halifax, Wigan, Hull and Widnes star plus French forward, Antoni Maria, are unlikely to be the last signings before next month’s battle for Super League status.

St Helens winger Matty Dawson is heavily tipped to move to the Leigh Sports Village while Aussie superstar, Jarryd Hayne, has been linked with a short term move to the Northern Hemisphere.

NRL Grand Finalist, Mitch Brown, currently out in the cold at Cronulla, is another linked with Centurions.

And Martyn Ridyard’s decision to sign a new deal, keeping him at his home town club until the end of 2018, is another coup for the club.

Wakefield and Featherstone had been linked with the 29-year-old half back, Leigh’s longest serving player.

“I’m sure Martyn has a lot more individual records he’d like to break,” says coach Neil Jukes of Leigh’s third highest points scorer.

“But his ultimate goal is to be part of the Leigh side that gets into Super League. He has a huge part to play not only for the rest of this season but for the future.”

Tickle, 33, joins with immediate effect from Castleford until the end of 2017 while Catalans pack man Mari, 29, has agreed a two-year deal from 2017 onwards.

Leigh entertain Dewsbury in the final game of the regular season when they will also be presented with the League Leaders’ Shield.

On Tickle’s arrival Jukes said:“He’s been there and done it but more importantly still doing it.

“He doesn’t want to come here and finish his career off, he wants to come here and be part of something successful

“He’s a seasoned pro and if we are going to do anything this year we want to make sure that any looseness around us is eradicated and Danny will help us do that.”

On possible further arrivals Jukes added:“We have been quite open and said the one area we do need to add a couple of bodies in is around the back line.

“When Liam Kay gets an injury, like he did against Sheffield last Friday, it shows how vulnerable we can be for genuine out and out wingers.

“If we didn’t get one I wouldn’t be going to bed worrying myself. But if we could add to it then why shouldn’t we do it if it improves us going forward?

On Hayne, currently in limbo after failing to make Fiji’s Olympic Sevens squad and a former Parramatta team mate of Fuifui Moimoi and Reni Maitua, Jukes added: “That was interesting, wasn’t it? We get linked with a lot of players but nothing from me on it. Not at all.”

Kay damaged his rotator cuff in the 34-30 win over Sheffield last Friday and could miss the start of the Middle 8’s.

And Jukes wants a big performance to end the regular campaign. “We were flat against Sheffield and let out levels drop below a standard which is acceptable. And the players were told that in no uncertain terms.

“But to win the league by the margin we have is ridiculous. If anyone had said to me after round one (and defeat at Batley) we would win the league by potentially 11 points, I would never have believed it.”
