WHEN José Mourinho calls up young talent to his Manchester United side this season the promoted player will almost certainly have been groomed at Leigh Sports Village.

United’s highly-rated young stars start a new Premier League 2 campaign at LSV next Monday when they take on Leicester City, kick off 7pm.

And like last season, when United won every game at LSV on their way to the Barclays U21 Premier League, the matches are free for everyone to enjoy by registering at leighsportsvillage.co.uk/matchdaytickets/manchester-united/

The Reds’ under 23s manager Warren Joyce is delighted that his young charges ¬- who last year included the likes of Marcus Rashford - are coming back to Leigh for another season.

“The aim is to produce players and it’s been great that we’ve had some good crowds at Leigh Sports Village,” he said.

“It replicates match situations, so it’s not as big a shock to them when they do step into the first team.

“Obviously, it’s a big difference running out at Old Trafford in front of 76,000 people but this does replicate it, so I’m appreciative of the fans who do come.

“We have enjoyed it over the past few years and we are looking forward to another successful season at Leigh.”

The game against Leicester comes after a large crowd enjoyed an enthralling Lancashire FA Senior Cup semi final at Leigh Sports Village last week which ended in Oldham overcoming United in a penalty shoot-out.

“The Oldham game was another example of how exciting football is at this level, and we’re delighted to be able to offer fans the chance to see it for free,” said LSV chief executive Simon Toon.

“We can’t wait to see the next players off the famous Manchester United production line - and some established stars too.”

Lord Peter Smith, leader of Wigan Council, said: “It is a huge accolade for Leigh Sports Village to be once again hosting Manchester United.

“Leigh Sports Village is a wonderful asset for the borough and it is testament to the high standard of the facilities and the pitch that Manchester United have kept it as the home for their young stars.

“As a Manchester United fan it also gives me a personal sense of pride that United will be playing in my home town. I hope people take the opportunity to see the many superb games coming up in the season ahead.”

On match day, The Red Zone Cafe opens at 5pm.

The games can also be enjoyed in style from an executive box, with match day hospitality starting from £25 per person, including two course pre-match meal, drinks service, first access to team sheets, parking and executive seat.
