LEIGH East tumbled to a second successive defeat as fellow promotion favourites Askam ran in six tries in their 40-16 win.

East started promisingly, with Ihaka Watene getting over the try line but his effort being disallowed.

The Cumbrians took control though and after 24 minutes led 20-0.

East got on the scoreboard after half an hour when Watene drifted right and cleverly delayed his pass for Sam Grainey to go over.

Wilkes scored by the posts for East after 55 minutes but any hopes went west when Ben Lewney touched down twice for the visitors.

The hosts rallied to claim a consolation effort when Dootson took Watene’s pass to go in at the corner for their third try.
