ASTLEY & Tyldesley hosted National Round 3 of the British Youth & Junior League series at Gin Pit on Sunday.

Star performance on the day came from A&T’s Emily Burgess, who turned in a brilliant performance to finish

3rd in the u12 Grand Prix ‘A’ Final, after scoring 15 points out of 16 in the qualifiers.

John White started the day as the u10 Grand Prix leader, but he fell first time out.

John bounced back with three race wins, but the points dropped ensured he qualified for the ‘B’ Final, which he duly won, to remain the series leader, but with a reduced lead. Max Evans also started the day as the u14 Grand Prix leader and his 14 points put him in the Grand Prix ‘A’ Final. Max finished 4th, to retain his lead, albeit with a reduced margin.

Ciaran Collins made a blistering start in the u17 qualifers, winning his opening race and setting a new track record.

Disaster struck next time out, as he took a very heavy fall at the first bend, sustaining facial injuries and a dislocated shoulder, resulting in a hospital trip and a lengthy spell out of action.

Wednesfield’s Brandon Whetton twice lowered the track record later in the match.

The new Gin Pit circuit held up superbly in a full day’s racing.

The final round of the series takes place at Gt. Blakenham, Suffolk next month.

A&T rode to a convincing win over bottom of the table Heckmondwike in Sunday’s Northern League Division 1 match at Gin Pit. Reece Pollitt raced unbeaten and he narrowly missed out on re-claiming the track record when winning heat 6.

All the A&T riders scored well, as Team Green raced to a 89-41 win.

A&T scorers: Reece Pollitt 19 (plus 1 bonus), Max Evans 16 (3), Matt Snell 14 (3), Paul Graham 14 (2), Lee Phillips 14 (1), Mark Grantham 8 (1), Emily Burgess 4.

Heckmondwike failed to field any junior riders, so A&T romped to a 79-0 win in the Division 3 match.

This keeps up A&T’s challenge to retain the league title. Emily Burgess and Matt Snell both raced unbeaten.

A&T scorers: Emily Burgess 16, Matt Snell 16, Jack Murray 12, Aiden Green 10, Lucy Grantham 10, Tom Beeley 6,

Laura Snell 5, Sabrina Evans 4.

A&T take on top of the table Edinburgh in a Northern League fixture at Gin Pit on Sunday, at 2pm.
