JUST two games stand between Leigh Cricket Club and Liverpool & District Premier League glory.

Tom Foster's men currently sit top of the table 13 points clear of second placed Northern and know that victory in their remaining two games will guarantee the Premier League title for the first time in the club's history.

If Leigh win on Saturday at home to Wallasey and Northern fail to beat third placed Formby, the title could even be won this weekend.

“It would mean so much to us to win the Comp,” said Foster.

“We’ve come second before but we’ve got a sturdy group of committee people and the mood is so different from last year when we were fighting against relegation. Everyone’s wishing us well and it would be brilliant if we got over the line.

“It’s very nicely set up for us. I thought there would be the odd game where we might crack or let things get out of hand a little bit but we’ve controlled it really well and I think I’ve been a little surprised that the players have responded so well to the pressure.

"Even when we’ve been struggling at times I’ve never been too worried that we weren’t going to get out if it. It’s been excellent to watch as a skipper.”

With Northern and Formby breathing down their necks, Foster and his team know they cannot take anything for granted and are looking no further than Wallasey this Saturday. Everyone is welcome to head down to Beech Walk and cheer the lads on. The game starts at 12 noon.

Winning the title would cap an incredible season for Leigh, who won the Wigan & District T20 earlier in the season. The Under 13s girls team, formed less than 5 years ago, became the first team in the clubs 162 year history to reach a National Final when they qualified for the ECB National U13 Girls T20 Finals Day back in July.

The women's 1st XI are also 5 league points away from completing the league and cup double for the second season in succession with two fixtures of the season to go.
