L EIGH Golf Club have a chance to win Europe’s biggest pro-am when they compete in the grand final of the Lombard Trophy in Portugal next week.

PGA Professional Andrew Baguley and amateur Steven Hewitt will go head to head with 13 other clubs in the 36-hole showdown in the sun which is supported by Coca Cola and carries a £41,500 prize fund including £12,000 to the winning professional.

More than 700 clubs entered the popular PGA National Pro-Am Championship which reaches its climax at Pestana’s stunning Vila Sol Golf & Resort Hotel on the Algarve from September 22-23.

Baguley, who was a member of the victorious 2005 Great Britain & Ireland PGA Cup team, will be returning to the final for the first time in 21 years when the event was played in San Lorenzo.

Hewitt, 26, a business development manager from Culcheth in Cheshire, and Baguley have a winning history with the pair topping a pro-am when Hewitt was just 15.

The duo clinched their spot in Portugal with a 12-under-par 60 in the regional qualifier at Formby back in July.
