TYLDESLEY men’s water polo team have qualified for the Division Four Championship with two games still to play.

The British Water Polo League Division Five table toppers bagged three wins at the weekend.

Addison Brown’s sixth goal, 24 seconds from the end, earned Tyldesley a thrilling 16-15 victory over Rotherham Metro in their top-of-the-table clash at Marlborough College.

Tyldesley were helped late on when keeper Aaron Atherton scored a speculative, length-of-the-pitch solo effort.

Other goalscorers were Tyler Turner, three, Neil Williams, two, Rob Bond, two, James Barker and Lucas McNulty.

Good form continued with a 9-8 victory against Warwick, and five more goals from Brown.

Barker, Williams, Turner and Adam Toone also hit the mark.

Sheffield Dolphins were then defeated 14-7, with Brown’s three goals taking his league tally to 28. Williams, three, Bond, three, Turner, two, Toone, two, and John Fletcher also netted.

Meanwhile, Tyldesley under 15s girls’ water polo team were bronze medallists in a national competition at Manchester Aquatics Centre.

In the group games, Tyldesley beat Rotherham 6-2, Cheltenham 5-2 and lost 9-2 to London regional team and eventual winners Otter.

Tyldesley were edged out 7-5 by Newton Abbott in the semi final before defeating City of Liverpool 9-4 in the bronze medal play-off.
