TYLDESLEY won 29-27 against a good Winnington side, which looked more than capable and came close to taking the points from SGP.

Both sides competed well, in what was a very good and entertaining game, which had the lead change hands six times, four coming in a tense second half For the first five minutes or so, Winnington held the upper hand, converting one of two penalties, giving them an early lead.

Good forward drives, set the foundations, of which the hosts took advantage. Quick ball out and a neat inside pass from Worsfold, resulted in Dickinson, touching down under the posts, Worsfold converted.

Good backing up had the ball move out wide, towards Dickinson, who’s strength and pace allowed him to cut through for a great individual try, giving them a nine point cushion, which was to be the biggest margin of the game, such was the evenness of this contest.

With five minutes of the half remaining, Park closed the gap to two, after they crossed for a converted try.

Back Bongs came, and restored their nine point cushion, after a great break from Hutton had him brilliantly, interchange passes with Dickinson, who touched down for his and Tyldesley’s third try, Worsfold added the extra two. Within thirteen minutes of the second period, good play had Winnington take a one point lead, through a converted penalty and try.

Bongs regained the lead, after good hands and support, allowed Dickinson to cross for his fourth, conversion missed, giving them a slender four point lead.

A third converted Park try, two minutes later restored their advantage, with fourteen remaining.

Bongs had made a few unnecessary mistakes during the half, and knew they’d have to improve if they wanted to keep their home winning run going, thankfully a much calmer and controlled approach, got them over the finishing line.

With just eight left on the clock, and it still anyone’s game, a solid scrum gifted the backs good ball which had Luke Dufeu cross on debut, for what turned out to be the winning score.
