LAST Saturday saw children from the ATSA Primary Schools go head to head against all other Wigan Primary Schools in the second Graham Jackett Primary Schools Cross Country Challenge at Leigh Harriers.

This event was jointly organised by ATSA and Leigh Harriers and involved over 180 children from St George's Central, St. Philip's, Garrett Hall, St. Michael's, St. Ambrose Barlow, Holy Family, Lowton West, Leigh St. Peter's and Leigh Sacred Heart.

Schools brought four teams: Y3/4 girls team, Y3/4 boys team, Y5/6 girls team and a Y5/6 boys team. A whole host of honours were on offer over the course of the event, however, the main prize was for who would come on top in the battle of the ATSA schools against all other Wigan Schools.

St Philips came out on first in the Year 3/4 Girls.

Lowton West topped the same age group for the boys as well as the Year 5/6.

St Ambrose were top of the pile in the Year 5/6 Girls.

St Philips were the overall winners for the girls with Lowton West

Thanks went to Joe Galvin (Leigh Harriers) and all his volunteers for not only hosting this event and helping to organise, but by providing expert support during the morning - without their help the event would not have been the success that it was.

A special mention should also be given to all the spectators who gave up their Saturday morning to come along and support this event - they managed to create a superb atmosphere which helped to motivate the children to do their best for their team.

Graham Jackett was the secretary at Leigh Harriers for over 25 years and recently passed away and so it was fitting that this event was named in his honour. His wife, Mrs L Jackett was on hand to present the trophy to the three Wigan Schools. This event is now a permanent fixture in the ATSA calendar and will take place on an annual basis.
