TYLDESLEY Primary School is celebrating winning the annual Atherton and Tyldesley Sports Association's Key Stage One Kurling Festival.

Nine other primary schools took part in the tournament on Friday – hosts St Michael's, St George's Central, Sacred Heart, St Philip's, Holy Family, Garrett Hall, Parklee, Atherton St George's and St Richard's.

They were split into two groups with the winners of each – Tyldesley and St Michael's – battling it out in the final.

Mark Grogan, founder of the ATSA and head teacher of St George's Central CE Primary School, said: "I would like to thank Mrs Evans from St Michael's for organising this event and all the staff for allowing us to use their facilities to host this competition for the fifth year running.

"As usual they were very hospitable, providing refreshments for both children and staff.

"I would also like to thank the sports leaders from St Michael's who acted as umpires and scorers for matches.

"Yet again they were a credit to the school."

Kurling is an adapted form of curling that can be played indoors on any smooth, flat surface, such as a sports hall, rather than on ice.
