BEN Reynolds is living the Super League dream but insists Leigh fans haven’t seen the best of their unsung half back.

Twelve months ago Reynolds was plying his trade with Dewsbury in the Championship against the likes of Swinton, Workington, Oldham and Featherstone.

A year on, Reynolds has already faced St Helens, Leeds, Wigan, Huddersfield and Warrington with tonight’s clash at Wakefield Trinity to come.

At the same time, the 23-year-old goal kicking half back is keeping local favourite, Martyn Ridyard, out of the Centurions’ line-up.

Coach Neil Jukes even says Reynolds and others should be aiming for World Cup selection at the end of the season.

It’s a remarkable transformation due to hard work, determination plus a large serving of help from Leigh assistant Paul Cooke.

“I worked with him a couple of years ago when we were both at Doncaster,” explained Reynolds, handed a Super League debut by Castleford four years ago.

“I have a pretty close relationship with him and he has helped my game so much.

“He seems to have a lot of faith in me which goes a long way when you are a young lad.

“I always wanted to start but I didn’t know what to expect, I just told myself to have a tough pre season, get through it, train hard and see what happened.

“I wouldn’t say I have to pinch myself from where I was 12 months ago. But I didn’t expect to start so soon.”

Reynolds’ 14 points in the recent 30-0 whitewash of Huddersfield included a first Super League try. He’s also featured in all three of Leigh’s victories.

“I still believe I have got a long way to go in my career,” he says. “I am learning all the time playing against the teams we have this season so far.

“Hopefully, I can keep improving and who knows where I can go from there.”

Leigh will join Castleford, Hull FC, Leeds and Salford on eight points with victory at Belle Vue and realistically move into the top four.

However, coach Jukes expects a positive response from their hosts after last week’s 38-14 defeat at Leeds when boss Chris Chester accused some of his players of falling “in love with themselves.”

Jukes says: “We are expecting a tough challenge and I am sure there will be a response from last week.

“The coach has come out and given it them quite openly so we are expecting a bit of a backlash regarding the intensity they are going to play with.”

Glenn Stewart will miss tonight’s game and the home clash with Widnes on April 1 through suspension.

The former Australian international’s second half hit on Warrington play maker, Kevin Brown, was deemed a Grade C high tackle.

Stewart took an early guilty plea, downgrading his possible three game ban to two matches. Dayne Weston returns to the squad though Cory Paterson is still out as he recovers from concussion suffered in the win over St Helens on February 24.

n Leigh will open their Ladbrokes Challenge Cup campaign against the team they replaced in Super League, Hull KR.

Leigh’s 25-18 win at Craven Park last September went a long way to securing their top flight status.

The ties, including Salford’s intriguing home clash with Paul Rowley’s Toronto Wolfpack, will take place on the weekend of April 22-23.
