ASTLEY & Tyldesley Cycle Speedway Club staged a double header of Northern League racing against Glasgow in the sunshine at Gin Pit on Sunday.

A&T had several riders missing for various reasons and were locked in a tightly contested Division Two match.

A&T took the lead with a 6-4 in heat 1, but Glasgow fought back and moved into a 6 points lead after heat 11. A&T then hit back to trail by 1 point with 1 heat remaining.

Matt Snell and A&T debutant Chaz Whalley took the all-important 6-4 in the last race, to give A&T the win by the narrowest of margins, 75-74.

Mick Knowles raced unbeaten for A&T, with good support from Matt Snell and Emily Burgess.

12 A&T youngsters contested In the Division Three match which followed, 12 A&T riders took part with Jack Murray, Emily Burgess and Charlie Burgess all racing unbeaten in the 90-0 victory.

Duncan Whalley and Lucy Grantham scored nine points each, Tom Beeley weighed in with eight while Aiden Green notching six points.

Deon Dickinson, Laura Snell and Josh Parkinson all scored five points, Freddie Cox brought in four and Oscar Belt three.

League newcomers Fife Revolutions were next up in a Division Two match.

The first three races were drawn, as A&T provided the race winners. Fife then banged in three 7-3 heat wins in the next four races, to move into a commanding 45-32 lead at the interval.

A&T rallied to keep the gap at 13 points, before Fife finished off with three successive 7-3 heat wins, to run out convincing 86-61 winners.

Mick Knowles was best for A&T with two race wins.

A&T made it three wins out of three in the Division Three match which followed.

Emily Burgess raced unbeaten in the under 13s category, with Duncan Whalley racing unbeaten in the under 10s section.

A&T are staging two days of racing at the weekend. The 1st North Regional Round of the Youth & Junior League series starts at 1pm on Saturday, with A&T taking on Sheffield in the Northern League matches on Sunday, 2pm start.
