ON a day of seaside sunshine, both New Brighton and Leigh appeared determined to entertain the crowd, with both teams committed to all-out attack, when in possession.

Leigh started well but were countered by New Brighton on each occasion, with the lead changing hands several times before the teams finished the first half with New Brighton leading by 20 points to 18.

The first 10 minutes of the second half saw New Brighton launch a blitz at the Leigh line with their back row dominating and their fly half creating openings along the line.

Two tries in 10 minutes had Leigh reeling at 30 to 18 down and it looked as if the game was fading away.

Unfortunately for New Brighton, the momentum that they had started with could not continue as Leigh replied, in quick succession, with breaks down opposite wings, bringing two converted tries in a pulsating end to end game. New Brighton 30 Leigh 32.

The game was now in the balance and with tactical changes in the forwards, Leigh increased their ball retention in the centre of the field, kicking a penalty and running in another two converted tries before finishing bonus point victors at 49 points to 33.

Next week will see the arrival of Hoylake to Round Ash Park with the Wirral team looking for their first win of the season.
