MORE than 60 Leigh Harriers from U11 to Veterans competed in the second Red Rose Cross Country League match at Astley Park Chorley on Saturday winning four races and three team prizes.

Keely Hodgkinson lead the ladies U17 team to a convincing win over a tough 5 km course; Keely took a commanding lead on the first of two laps crossing the winning line in a time of 18:12, after a mighty battle to the line with Laura Riches the eventual winner of the senior women’s race.

Ciara Treanor was the team’s second counter in 8th place 23:14 followed by Emma McIntyre 15th 24:38 and Joanna Smith 18th 25:04 completing the winning team.

Laura Riches won the senior ladies race over the same 5km course recording her second win of the season finishing in 18:11. Olivia Stones won second place in the race and was 1st U20 lady in a time of 18:36; Leah Peploe finished in 13th place 21:37, Courtney Donald 15th 21:41 being the Leigh winning team.

Also running well for the team were Brenda Wane 9th O/55 in 26:30, Susanne Smith 27:02 and Diane Denny 37:13.

Running in the U17 Youths race Joseph Wane ran well for 6th place over the 5km course in a time of 18:08 with Nathan Myers winning 12th place in 19:20.

Leigh’s U15 Girls were comfortable winners of the team race in the 3km race. Katie Morley lead the team home in 4th place 18:20, and close behind packing well for the team were Rebecca Pollitt in 6th place 18:25 and Olivia Anderson 7th in a time of 18:31. Good team runs came from Megan Ridge 16th 20:03, Charlotte Kilgannon 29th 21:16 and Annabelle Sharrock 38th 26:26.

Leigh’s U11 girls had a good afternoon winning second place in the team race. Jessica Hodgkinson was first in for the Leigh team over the 1.6 km course in a time of 8:27 in 10th place, with Jasmine Barlow in 15th place 8:34 and Olivia Southwell in 18th place 8:38 being the team counters; running well for the team were Nina Renda 37th 8:56, Freya Cash 39th 8:58, Sophie Cunliffe 50th 9:15, Phoebe Holden 75th 10:03 and Annabelle Turner 82nd 10:27.

Leigh’s Senior Men’s team ran well over a testing 10 km very muddy course; Neil Pendlbury was Leigh’s first runner home in 7th place 37:59, followed by Dave Smith 10th first O/40 in the race in 39:15, Robert Thorpe in only his second cross country was 13th 40:0, Phil Williams 17th 40:49, Richard Smith packing well for the team was 27thth 41:59 and Allister Goulding 43rd 43:07 being the team’s counters winning 3rd team prize. Running well for the team was Mark Gornall 134th 49:29 and Andy Howarth 156th 49:29.

In the U13 Boys race over 2.5km Josh Swift was 6th 10:49 chased by Callum Charlson 12th 11:19 and Louis McPherson 40th 12:43 completing the team in 6th place.

In the girls U13 2.5 km race Megan Short was home in 5th place 11:18, Lily Edwards 14th 11:45, Keira Donaldson 43rd 12:53, Grace Cradock 44th 12:57, Molly Southwell 12:57, Olivia Galvin 59th 13:32, Ellie McOnie-Lownsbrough 75th 14:32, Chloe Abbott 76th 14:36.

The team finished in 5th place.

In the U11 boys race over 1.6 km Ethan Davies was 5th 6:24, Sam Barlow 10th 6:36, William Cooper 20th 6:51, Edward Scott 30th 7:00, Eddie Sanderson 41st 7:13, Isaac Jones 55th 7:30, Cillian Clarke 69th 7:48, Aaron Frederickson 97th 9:07 and Alex Reason 100th 9:22.

The Leigh team were placed 4th .

In the U15 Boys race over 3km Josef Short was 22nd 16:40, Owen Reason 24th 16:55, Joel Denton 25th 16:59, Samuel Wade 29th 17:18, Shea Mellor 34th 17:28, Ben Ayres 36th 17:32 and Josh White 39th 18:18.

The team finished in 6th place.
