LEIGH Athletic have reached their third semi final of the season.

The Tics will visit Winstanley Warriors or Hindley Town in the last four of the Wigan Cup on Thursday, April 19, kick-off 6.15pm.

Leigh, who are seeking a new first-team manager for next season, booked their place in the semi finals with a superb 1-0 victory over a strong Billinge FC side.

The winning goal came from the penalty spot.

David Dooley’s fierce strike on the half volley was handled on the line by a Billinge defender, who#s goal-saving actions earned him a red card

Dooley’s younger brother James stepped up to take the penalty and sent the goalkeeper the wrong way as he slotted the ball into the top corner.

“This was just a brilliant team performance,” said player manager Kevin Hough.

“Everyone dug deep and gave 110 per cent.”

Leigh Athletic, who are eighth in Manchester Football League Division One, host bottom team Westbury Sports Club at Leigh Sports Village on Saturday, kick off 1pm.

The Tics would welcome more supporters at their matches.

Leigh Athletic’s reserves will face Uppermill Reserves in the Bridgewater Cup Fina at Shawe View, Trafford, on Wednesday, April 25, kick-off 7.45pm.
