LEIGH Miners Rangers fell victim to a strong Lock Lane second half showing in West Yorkshire.
Leading 18-6 midway through the first half with tries for Josh Ward, Joe Digby and Todd Fenlon, Ward with three goals, Miners paid the price for a four try burst after the break from Lane which saw the game turned on its head.
Ward grabbed his second in the dying stages to add to an eventful match for the stand-off which also saw him sin-binned and earn the visitors’ match award, but this was a frustrating afternoon for Miners.
The Alliance team beat Widnes Tigers 26-24 with a stellar showing from Tony Doyle with two tries and a conversion as he sealed the match award. Jimmy Tunstall, Lewis Grimes and Mick Govin also crossed the whitewash whilst Sam Shepherd added two goals.
The women’s team opened their campaign with another epic contest as they defeated Widnes 28-20 at Twist Lane.
This Saturday both men’s teams are on the road with the first team at in-form Thornhill and the Alliance on the long trek up to Hindpool.
