IT has been quite a few days for 15- year-old Leigh CC sensation Kasey Bentham.

Last week she achieved the incredible feat of a five-wicket haul for the men’s senior 2nd XI at home to Northop Hall. The away side rallied and had Leigh nine wickets down as they pushed for victory, but Kasey and young Mohan Howard had other ideas, holding their nerve to clinch a draw.

Kasey then received a call up for Lancashire under 17s, producing another fine spell, getting among the wickets in the roses clash with Yorkshire.

On Saturday she was back in action for Leigh 2s, claiming another four wickets as she tore through Rainford’s batting line up along with fellow opening bowler Patrick Allan.

Leigh bowled their opponents out for 33 and eased to a ten wicket victory.

Kasey then rounded off her week of wickets with another three victims in Leigh Women’s defeat away to a strong Appleton outfit.

A club spokesman said: “We are extremely proud of Kasey.

“She is such a humble, polite girl.

“It doesn’t matter if she takes five wickets or none - she still walks off the field with the same smile on her face.

“That’s her secret, she just enjoys playing cricket.”

MEANWHILE, there were wins for both Westleigh CC teams on Saturday as the firsts beat Littleborough Lakeside by 5 wickets and the seconds stunned Walshaw by 40 runs.

Charlie Samarasekara was the star with bat and ball scoring 35 not out to rescue the innings from 72/5 in pursuit of Lakeside’s 130 all out. Toby Leeds scored 48 not out in a partnership worth 61 after spinner Samarasekara had earlier taken 5 for 41 in his new role as front line spinner following Andy Lloyd’s calf injury which meant scorer Daniel Leonard taking to the field as sub fielder!

The 2XI performed a marvellous 2nd innings comeback after being shot out for 132 on a poor Walshaw track, new opener Connor Andrews top scoring with 31.

Reece Woodcock was the star of the show though returning his best ever bowling analysis, 14 overs 7 for 47, and earning a place on the WCC honours board in the process. Walshaw were all out for 92 inside 34 overs.
