Eight Team Leigh boxers travelled to Dublin to take part in the Monkstown International Box Cup, to compete against boxers from all over the world including USA, India, Hungary, Denmark, Sweden, Mongolia and many others. Almost One Thousand boxers were in attendance, but the Leigh boxers produced incredible performances to win FOUR Gold Medals and two Silver !
Leigh's England Internationals Will Hewitt and John Dugdale both boxed 3 times to take Gold, beating current National Champions, Hewitt being shortlisted for Boxer of the Tournament.
They were joined by National Champion Harvey Ashcroft and Zak Adams who also won Gold. Paddy Hewitt was very unlucky not take the decision in his final against the 3 time Scottish Champion, losing by split decision to take Silver, and Thomas Dugdale also took Silver. Leigh's other boxer Enis Shala, drew the 3 time Irish Champion, and despite losing on points boxed well. Ten year old Dylan Jackson also travelled with the squad to gain valuable
experience of an International event.
The Leigh boxers made such an impression that they were shortlisted for Team of the Tournament, which was awarded to the United States National Squad !
