Brothers miss out on The Open

BURY’S golfing brothers Sean and Ciaran Doherty were given a taste of how difficult playing a links course can be when they took part in the local final qualifying round for The Open at Birkdale this week.
The duo will not be playing at Open this week after they failed to finish in the top four after the two rounds at the West Lancashire course.
Sean scored 78 and 77 to finish on 11 over – eight shots from qualifying, while his younger brother Ciaran, still an amateur who won the Bury Golf Association title the last week, returned two 82s to finish 20 over.
