LEIGH Miners Rangers are preparing for the time-honoured season curtain-raiser as the 28th Carlsberg Super Cup will get underway later this month.
With the eight teams now confirmed all eyes turn to the draw for the first round games which will be made on Monday, July 21, with the opening games in the competition scheduled for Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th July.
Miners will be bidding to claim a record 12th Grainey Trophy crown when the tournament gets underway, but the home side will face tough competition from revitalised neighbours Leigh East and the North West Counties heavyweights Bank Quay Bulls.
In addition Golborne Parkside, who performed so heroically in last season's tournament, will also be well-supported. Another club with a prestigious history in Halton Simms Cross, Pilkington Recs and new faces Oldham St Annes and Bold Miners complete the eight teams.
The final will be played on Saturday, August 9 and will be presided over by the Mayor of Wigan, Cllr Rona Winkworth. The game will be preceded by the Fred Hilton U13s competition.
All games will be played at Miners' Twist Lane ground, first games kicking off at 1.30pm.
