More misery for Colls

9:46am Thursday 4th September 2008

ATHERTON Colls’ disappointing start to the season has continued with two more defeats.

Top of the table Glossop North End were the visitors on Bank Holiday Monday and they left with a narrow 1-0 victory.

It was a game devoid of clear cut chances and the local side almost subdued their in-form rivals.

Once again an individual mistake let the team down and Rick Bailey capitalised on it in the 63rd minute with a shot from 20 yards to put Glossop in front. Colls battled to the end without ever really looking like equalising.

Last Saturday saw Colls in action at Nelson and they had the majority of possession in the first period.

Alex Dunne could have given them the lead on 15 minutes but shot wide in front of goal. Nelson took the lead on 25 minutes with a free header from close range. Colls should have drawn level just before the interval after a good run by Troy Hayder.

The wheels really came off in the second half with the home side adding four more goals to send Colls home shell-shocked.

This Saturday they are at home to Chadderton in the first Qualifying Round of the Carlsberg FA Vase.

Colls Reserves 100 per cent win record went as well when they lost 1-0 at home to Glossop.
