AN ambitious cricket event is on its way.
Wigan Cricket Development Group and Surridge Sports will be presenting a feast of 20/20 cricket from Tuesday, culminating in a Grand Finals day at Leigh Cricket Club on July 5.
With 23 games in total, involving 10 senior teams from the area, there are sure to be many of the thrills and skills associated with the popular professional version of the game.
Teams in coloured clothing, smacking around pink balls to a back drop of music and entertainment, will compete for the title of best Wigan and District 20/20 team.
The first week of action starts on Tuesday with The Gin Pit Gladiators welcoming Orrell Redz to Astley and Tyldesley.
The following night sees Golborne Giants travel to Spring View to do battle in an all Bolton Association clash. The week concludes with Leigh Redbacks at home to Spring View and Westleigh Lions entertaining Hindley Roosters.
There are two groups of five teams, with all games starting at 6.15pm and played under Pro 20/20 rules.
The winners and runners up in each group will go forward to contest the Grand Finals day and each side must turn out a minimum of four under 19s players in their playing XI.
