Grand Prix ASTLEY and Tyldesley Cycle Speedway Club’s junior squad have missed out on qualification for the British Youth and Junior League Series.
They visited a very wet Stockport track for the fourth and final northern round at the weekend, needing a win to go through.
But rivals Sheffield sealed the win on the day and the qualification, with A&T claiming third place behind Stockport and finishing second overall.
Result: Sheffield 175, Stockport 115, Astley and Tyldesley 100, Bury 49, Hull 42.
A&T had three riders who made it a clean sweep of individual Grand Prix final wins in the northern series, with Adam Turnbull winning the under eights final, Adam Watson the under 10s final and Adam Phillips the under 12s final.
Those three riders have qualified for the national Grand Prix rounds and they are likely to be joined by some more A&T riders once the overall scores nationally have been finalised.
On Sunday, A&T take on league leaders Stoke in a Northern League match at Gin Pit. First race is at 2pm.
