ASTLEY and Tyldesley road runners got their road campaign for 2010 underway at the Chernobyl 10km in Preston.
The race produced some superb individual results but it was a fantastic achievement for the Club to bring home both the men’s and ladies’ team prizes.
Simon Ford continued where he left off in 2009 to finish ninth overall in a time of 35mins 38secs, narrowly missing out on a personal best.
Second Astley and Tyldesley finisher and overall V50 winner was Shaun Moran in 36mins 36secs, back to his peak after a lengthy lay-off.
Peter Chan was relatively pleased with his 37mins 6secs and was followed in by a cluster of runners, including Scott Christey, Mark Riches and Gary Atherton.
Pete Mulleady, equalled his recent personal best time at Ribble Valley with 38mins 48secs.
Alan Hilton, Terry Gardiner and John Lee all finished closely.
Making her 10k debut for the club, Josie Maley finished first lady in 44mins 36secs.
Brenda Wane came home in 45mins 23secs to take home the lady vet 45 prize.
Breathing down her neck was Carole Baines in 45mins 36secs.
Sue Hopkin ran her first 10km for several years and finished in 47mins 47secs and was challenged all the way by Suzanne Gregory, another debutant at 10km, with 47mins 50secs.
Special mentions go to Ray Taylor and Fiona Saunders, who both collected personal bests.
