Sarsfield comments on Miners loss to Whitehaven

Winston Sarsfield on Leigh Miners’ 40-20 loss to Whitehaven on Friday:

I think for a lot of the game we dominated and scored some fantastic tries.

We needed a bit more steadyness. There were three or four errors during the game that cost us dear.

The first 25 minutes we completed every single set, we tipped on, we were pushing ball, we scored a couple of fantstic tries.

I just said before the game that 8, 9 and 10 set the bar and boy did they, but obviously those players get fatigued and those changes coincided with a few penalties and I don't think we were done any favours on the penalty count but that's no disrespect or detriment to the game.

I thought in the second half we pushed it about.

Leon (Brennan) was on the run and just got caught in two minds and put the ball just behind Ryan (Smith). Ryan is the poacher. Him and Scott O'Brien are just a joy to coach.

All over the field there were heroes and they kept going to the end. Whitehaven did, too, and the score didn't reflect the game, but if we'd have walked away with a victory I don't think anyone could have begrudged it.

We were magnificent for a big part of that game.

The first 25 minutes and then the first 25 minutes of the second half, you'd have asked which was the pro team. I thought we were amazing.

The groundsman said it was the best game of rugby he's seen so far in the stadium since it opened. It says a lot about both teams.

I know we've lost and it takes a lot off you, but I'm proud from one to 17.

We've got to dust ourselves off for Rose Bridge on Saturday. If we play like that, then we should be all right.
