Leigh East 4 East Hull 20
WHAT a hangover Leigh East had from their clash with professionals Hunslet Hawks in the Carnegie Challenge Cup.
The 20-4 loss came against a team at the opposite end of the table, fighting for survival and totally committed to winning each of their remaining games.
It was probably the worst performance of the season so far by National Conference leaders East, who are now within Siddal’s reach.
Ball retention was poor as was the use of attacking options.
That said, East Hull did not give up much ground and held a good defensive line.
Carl Puckering was instrumental in the Hull win, providing a perfect grubber kick for the first try, added the conversion, kicked a drop goal and the extras to the second try.
Leigh East finally got on the scoreboard when Craig Millington crashed over, Peters failing to improve from the touch line.
Hull finally put the game to bed with their third try with 10 minutes remaining.
East face Thatto Heath at Ledgard Avenue on Saturday, kick off 2pm, and travel to Wigan St Judes on Tuesday, kick off 7pm.
