COLLS have been in resurgent form of late and avenged previous league and cup defeats when they won at AFC Blackpool on Saturday.

The home side hit the bar in the fifth minute but Colls took the lead moments later.

Paul Atherton’s cross left keeper Nathan Thompson stranded and Paul Shanley scored.

The pace settled down a little and neither keeper was severely tested until 35 minutes in. Thompson was left stranded once more and Phil Mooney’s gilt-edged chance hit the post. Two attempts to put in the rebound were made, the last of which was cleared off the line by a Blackpool defender.

Three minutes later, Shanley tried to lob Thompson from 40 yards but the Blackpool keeper headed the ball away from the edge of the penalty area.

Colls went 2-0 ahead with less than 10 second-half minutes played but Paul Hynes’ shot should never have slipped through Thompson’s hands.

It looked as though Colls were going to be made to pay for missed chances when Ben Waddington pulled one back for Blackpool.

Kevin Kynaston came on for Jonathan Bridge and atoned for his miss against AFC Liverpool with an emphatic spot kick to restore the visitors’ match-winning cushion with 10 to go.

On Saturday Colls entertain Cheadle Town, kick off 3pm.
