Mark Maddox marks Leigh Genesis return

LEIGH Genesis have confirmed their former player Mark Maddox as the club's new manager.

He brings a wealth of experience to the club as they continue their preparations for the 2010/2011 Evo-Stick League Division One North campaign at Crilly Park.

Maddox replaces Garry Flitcroft, who stepped down at the end of the last campaign.

The 37-year-old spent two seasons at Leigh between 2006 and 2008 while the club were playing in the Conference North, having previously played in the Conference National with Altrincham.

He captained the Cheshire side in a spell at Moss Lane that lasted 10 years and included winning the Conference North play-offs in 2005 and four Cheshire Senior Cups.

Maddox spent the 2007/2008 season in the Conference North with Vauxhall Motors, before accepting the post of centre of excellence manager at League Two side Accrington Stanley.

In terms of coaching qualifications, Maddox is almost without comparison in the league, having earned the hugely-respected UEFA 'A' Coaching Licence in 2009 before taking charge of Vodkat North West Counties Premier League side Formby in October 2009. Maddox took over a side that were languishing at the bottom of the table but, under the Liverpudlian's guidance, managed to finish 14 points clear of the relegation zone in a credible 15th position.

Maddox said: "I'm delighted to be here and to be given the opportunity at a higher level.

“I enjoyed my time with Formby but this was too good a job to turn down.

"Leigh were always a well-run and friendly club when I was here as a player, so it made perfect sense to return as manager when the chance presented itself.

"Although we will be looking to consolidate our position in the league next season and take each game as it comes in what was a very tough league, I can certainly guarantee that I will be looking to build an honest, hard-working side that will do the club proud.”

Maddox takes charge at Crilly Park with immediate effect, with the club's full coaching line-up to be confirmed soon.
