A JUNIOR netball league could be formed in the borough.
The formation of a league was one of the aims of staging a tournament for north west teams at Golborne High School.
Wigan Netball Development Group and Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust hosted the event that attracted 50 teams and 575 participants.
The other aim of the day was to provide plenty of match play for young athletes.
Sheonah Hunt, Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust community netball coach, said: “We are delighted at the level of support. Everyone involved should feel proud and hopefully the young people involved will have gained some valuable experience.”
Tameside under 13s and Trafford under 14s shared the winners' spoils.
Gill Edwards, Wigan Netball Development Group chairman and Wigan juniors head coach said: “This event was for young people who may not normally get to compete in tournaments.
“Until a week ago they didn't know each other but they have come together to form great teams and enjoy themselves. That is a real credit to them.”
The tournament is the latest event in Wigan Leisure and Culture’s Trust ‘What’s Your Game’ calendar.
The scheme - which received the Inspire Mark meaning it is directly endorsed by the London 2012 Olympics Committee - focuses on a different sport each month to enthuse young people about the different activities they can get involved in within the borough.
