SIXTEEN-year-old Laura Riches has run into top form on the back of taking part in the World Schools Cross Country Championships.
Laura was an easy winner in the trials for the World Youth Hill Championships, booking her place for Italy and another England vest.
Turning her attention to the 1,500m steeplechase Laura ran an English Schools qualifying time of 5mins 5secs to win the North West title.
Continuing her winning ways she clocked 4mins 32.9secs for the 1,500m, ranking her number one in the north west.
Thirteen-year-old Adam Jamson ran a personal best time for the 400m in the Young Athletes League, winning in 56secs, and clocked 25.2secs to win the 200m.
Abigail Howarth won the North West under 17s girls 1,500m title in 4mins 57.6secs, while Bethany Jones ran a personal best time of 4mins 43.20secs in the under 17s girls 1,500m.
Another personal best came from Shannon Johnson in the under 17s girls’ 800m in 2mins 20.28secs.
Early season form promises some outstanding times over the summer months.
Northern Under 15 And 17 Boys And Girls Track And Field Championships LEIGH Harriers will host the Northern Under 15s and Under 17s Track and Field Championships at New Madely Park, Leigh Sports Village, on Saturday and Sunday.
More than 700 of the best athletes from the north of England will contest over two days of competition in what will be the largest track and field event ever staged in Leigh.
The Harriers up-and-coming stars to look out for are Ryan Moore, top ranked 1,500m under 17s boy in Greater Manchester with a time of 4mins 13secs, Bethany Jones in the under 17s 1,500m, Shannon Johnson in the under 17s girls 800m and 3,000m, Adam Jamson in the under 15s 400m, Georgina Leck in the under 17s 800m, Elizabeth Lee in the under 17s 3,000m and Adam Howarth in the under 17s 800m.
The club won the bid to host the championships due to the outstanding facilities at the Sports Village and the enthusiasm from the Harriers to host the championships.
