ASTLEY and Tyldesley road runners celebrated a men’s team medal at the Lymm 5K on a hot and humid Saturday.
Twenty six runners represented the club and leading them home was Paul Mannion in 16mins 41secs, crossing the line in fourth overall and taking the V40 prize.
Simon Ford was the second A&T finisher in 17mins 53secs, with Shaun Moran and Peter Chan enjoying a close tussle in third and fourth.
Moran got the nod by two seconds on this occasion with 18mins 7secs and secured the V50 award.
Strong performances followed from Mark Riches, Gary Stevens, Alan Hilton and Terry Gardiner, the latter collecting a personal best in the process.
Meanwhile, the women’s team finished in a creditable third place, with Josey Maley fourth overall in 19mins 44secs.
Brenda Wane and Carole Baines made up the team but there was strong support from Suzanne Gregory and Michaela Shaw.
The road runners are also organising a 5km race and one-mile fun run on Sunday, July 12, in memory of a former friend of the club, Gill Pimblott.
The annual race raises much needed funds for Gill's charity, the Cancer Care Suite at Wigan Hospital.
Both races start from the Gin Pit Miners Welfare Club, Ley Road, Tyldesley, M29 7DW, and the course is traffic free.
The 5k is £4 for club runners, £6 for unattached runners and £1 extra on the day.
The race starts at noon, with the fun run £3 to enter and starting at 11.30am.
