LEWIS Broad is celebrating his first boxing title after winning the North West Junior Novice title at the weekend.
The 16-year-old beat C Ward 17-9 in the final at Bolton.
Unfortunately, fellow Astley VIP boxer Michael Tang could not match Broad’s achievement in the Senior Novice Championships.
Light welterweight Tang won his semi-final contest on points but lost on the tightest decision in the final to the unbeaten W Rushton from Bury 24 hours later.
It was Tang’s fourth fight in three weeks and many observers felt he was unlucky not to claim the North West title after suffering only his second defeat in 10 bouts.
One of the most talked about contests of the championships involved 15-year-old Lewis Bartlett.
Despite coming up short in his North West final appearance, the score of 29-26 was the biggest seen in the whole competition.
Also in action last week was 14-year-old Dan Meadows, who claimed his fourth win from five contests with an exciting victory over D Kinsella on a show in Warrington.
