LEIGH gained their sixth bonus point win of the season against dogged Cumbrian opponents thanks to a 23 points haul from full back Paul Wilcox.
The forwards provided the platform for free-scoring winger Adam Dyson to get the scoring started. Wilcox converted and added a penalty.
Carlisle cut the deficit with a try and penalty before Wilcox kicked a second penalty.
The visitors took a lead into the second half, though, having scored from a quickly taken penalty.
Wilcox levelled early in the second stanza, but the big Cumbrian forwards started to take control on the back of some excellent kicking from their half backs.
Two difficult penalties put the visitors in command.
Leigh introduced a strong bench in Crompton, Houlton, and Forshaw, who all contributed to a fine recovery.
The Leigh forwards resumed control, and Wilcox scored wide on the right to leave Leigh a point in arrears.
With only minutes remaining Tom Forshaw broke strongly.
The forwards won quick ball, which was moved right for Wilcox to score the match winner.
Leigh will need to show more consistency in the difficult games to come.
