Boxer Catterall reaches second national final

LEIGH Amateur Boxing Club’s Jack Catterall reached his second national final.

Lightweight Catterall was in blistering form in the NACYP semi finals in Wakefield on Sunday, outboxing and outpunching fellow England international Ronnie McNamara of Hoddesdon ABC.

After a competitive first two rounds he smoothly pulled away in the final two rounds to take a comfortable points victory and a place in the final on November 24.

Light heavyweight Tom Jones missed out on the final, though, being defeated by four-time national champion Jacob Peterson of Cheshunt ABC.

In an amazing first round Jones blasted the midlands-based boxer around the ring, forcing an eight count and taking a 6-0 lead.

Despite leading for the first three rounds, a tiring Jones found himself under an incredible final surge from the Cheshunt boxer and went down 19-13 at the final bell.
