Harrier Howarth hitting form

LEIGH Harriers’ Lauren Howarth was back in top form at the McCain UK athletics Cross Challenge in Cardiff on Sunday.

Competing for England over a fast 6.8km two-lap course, Howarth opened up an early lead against some of the top cross country runners and won by a clear margin of 17 seconds.

With the Northern Cross Country Championships coming in Pontefract on January 28, the weekend’s performance gives her a huge confidence boost.

Dionne Allen, representing the North, also ran well to finish in the top 20.

At the Northern Indoor Championships in Sheffield, a small team from Leigh produced some good results.

Adam Jamson, running in the under 17s men’s 800m final, won a bronze medal in 2mins 08secs.

Luke White, competing in the boys’ 60m, won his heat in 7mins 7.9secs and finished fifth in the final with 7mins 9.7secs.
