Campo set for Reebok exit

IVAN Campo's love affair with Bolton Wanderers could soon be over.

The former Real Madrid ace, who has spent four years as one of the most popular personalities at the Reebok, has been told he is not in Sammy Lee's plans and is close to sealing a return to Spain.

Real Mallorca, one of his former clubs, are keen to take him back.

Campo already knew his Bolton days were numbered, but his reported comments on the new management regime and his claim that Wanderers are heading for relegation unless things change soon, suggest a parting of the ways is imminent.

"Everybody misses Sam Allardyce," the 33-year-old is reported to have said of the manager who brought him to the Reebok in August 2003.

"The team is not well. We've lost three matches and it seems to me there is a very sad atmosphere in the dressing room."

Until now I have resisted commenting on the events at the Reebok, but if LSL thinks that getting rid of Campo and replacing him with the dross he has signed, I really do think that we will do a Charlton and probably never recover. But never mind Mr Davies will still be sat on a prime piece of real estate.

Why are we loosing a class player who can actually put his foot on the ball pass, tackle and score for the likes of McCann. They both of the same lack of pace however, one has proved at the highest level and the other has never proved it. Lets face facts LSL may be a good coach however, his management does not add up we have weakened our team not improved it and we have changed our style of play as it was not good enough to entertain well which division will we be entertaining in as getting stuffed is no fun.

Campo is one of the reasons we are still in the prem (so far anyway)he is one of the greatest "team players" that forms a solid strength in football, it's a shame that since BIg Sam's departure we are falling apart at the seams.
Now can Gartside honestly say that Big Sam wasnt a good influance on BWFC?
Until the board as the balls to get rid of gartside nothing will go in the Clubs best interests.
GARTSIDE OUT!!!!!

I dont believe a word of this "story". It originated in The Mirror and after seeing Sammy at the BWSA supporters night on Thursday and listening to him talk about Campo, it doesnt ring true. Whilst Campo does not feature in Sammy's plans AT THE MOMENT, it doesnt mean to say he wont later on and in the meantime, Sammy said he continues to be a model professional. I am surprised at the Bolton News running with this story on alledged comments.

I've no confidence at all in LSL. I didn't like him when he came here as a player and he's done nothing so far to convince me he is the right man to take over from Allardyce. It will be a shame if Campo goes and if he is followed out of the door by Diuof and Anelka then we are going to be nailed on for relegation. It's going to be a long, long season and being in the EUFA cup will do us no favours either. Is it time for a change already? I think maybe it is - before it's too late...

Why does it seem that Sammy Lee wants to destroy everything that Big Sam did at our club? Why did he stay at Bolton as assistant if he was so unhappy with our tactics. I know it is early days but, he has removed all the things that made us a top half team. It took Big Sam 5 years to build this club up to where we were at the end of last season. Little Sam has took all that away in a summer. We are now back where we were 5 years ago. Struggling with the newly promoted teams. I know we took stick from outside the club for our tactics but who cares. Are Blackburn fans really bothered about being labelled a bunches of bullies when they are taking points from Arsenal. That is exactly what we did under Big Sam. Ivan Campo is a quality player and when you upset and start to lose them then there is nothing for us. I am sure all those clubs and people who resented our ability to be in the top half on a shoe string budget we wave us off as we sail into obscruity player nice so called football. Not that we are creating no chances and conceeding like cowards is not nice football Sammy. Please Phil get a grip and realise what Bolton fans have already. Sammy is not up to the job. He could not get the Charlton job last season and look how good they did. Reduce ticket prices all you want Phil I have had a season ticket for five years and will still go if we are relagated but not on a season ticket as you are not giving me value for money.

another great decision if this is true sammy! NOT! are you trying to get rid of all the players who can actually play and influence the game, is having a personality to much for you to handle sammy? if so then its you who needs to fkoff! take fat gartside with you!

So we've had Nolan, Campo, Diouf, and Anelka all speak out against the club. Does this sound like Sammy Lee has control over the dressing room? They wouldn't have dared speak out when Big Sam was here. Face it, he's sh*t, we're in the sh*t, and its going to get a lot worse unless the board acts soon. Replace Campo, with McCrap, or Alonso? Oh, please...

I am a fan of Sammy Lee's management of the club and have given him nothin but support so far. But getting rid of even Campo is going way too far. He is a cult hero and will remain a fan favourite and not only that he is one of the most talented midfielders we have had simce the days of Djorkaeff. If he goes he will be sadly missed. I just hope that he will get a final chance.

After todays display i would pick Alonso over Campo any day. He can pass, he is quick and can run forever and i have never seen anybody work as hard in a game for us for years. He is exactly the sort of player we should want in our team.
Campo spoke out against the team and manager and in my opinion should leave. Last season i didnt think he was too good either. Send him back to Spain Sammy.

i know where you are coming from mate, and todays performance by alonso only bolstered it mate, i mean- i heard a small number of the crown singing 'ivan campo ' but that was because he was sat with wilhelmsson, al habsi, davo, o'brian and braaten but wasn't named in the squad but i wouldn't go as far as selling him, the man has the experience of the premiership and all our silver cup matches, so keeping hold of him could not should pay dividends in the long run !!!!
ps... not sure the story was true mate..

?? I look a complete tw*t?? My my how sad you are. Go on Little Sam, prove me wrong... Were we very good today or were Reading just rather poor? Great result and hopefully the start of a change in fortune, but if we lose our better players (Campo, Diouf Anelka) I fear the worst... Was that a farewell gesture by Diouf at the end?? I so hope not...

How often do you go to matches - the only time dioufy doesnt give his shirt away is maybe if we get beat, don't go reading things into it(though looking at your comments you'd probably be happier if he went or we lost all our matches then you could wallow in your misery).

Campo and Faye have both gone! , heard it from a club official today. Stelios is off to Sheff utd by the look of it. So 3 senior players out of the door. I hope we bring in at least 2 big names to address this. Diouf and Anelka both look like going if the bids come in.

I've had a season ticket since the days of Phil Neal, and been watching them since the late 60s, so I go to all the games and a few away every season. Of course I dont want us to go down, but I still think the appointment of LSL has all the hallmarks of the past - replacing Ian Greaves from within started us on the decline that ended with us eventually in the 4th division. It looked to me more a farewell gesture when Diouf took his shirt off at the end and clapped the crowd. I hope both he and Anelka stay we played some great football yesterday. As for wallowing in misery, it's something you get used to being a long standing Bolton fan....

I am a huge fan of Campo, but he obviously doesn't fit into LSL's plans. If it has been reported accurately, I think it is a shame that he has turned his personal frustrations into an a public attack on LSL - I thought he was more dignified than that.
I would expect he is one of the high wage earners and the reality is that if he is destined for a role on the bench, LSL could use that money on a big name.
Of course with the SKY money this year, we should be able to keep our best players and add other big names, but the board seem to want to fatten the club up for a lucrative sale to the detriment of the club this season.

Good luck Sammy!!

Unfortuntaely for him he has criticised the Lee appointment then further criticised the Lee regime. Unacceptable behaviour I am afraid mate. goodbye Ivan and thanks for the memories.

IVAN CAMPO, IVAN CAMPO, IVAN CAMPO, IVAN CAMPO!

Deserves adoration from the fans and he's an entertaining cheeky chappy.

However, he's lost that extra pace he had and can't chase, tackle and harass players like he used to.

In fact, he kept getting frustrated and earning yellow cards through lashing out irresponsibly.

But, a legend nonetheless.

Whatever happens, we will miss him.

I am sorry if I am one of the only people who think that Campo is not the answer in our midfield at present. The only system he can play in is if we play with a man just in front of the back four. On Saturday, McCann was the unsung hero in my book, he and Alonso ran all day and there is no room in the team for Campo, McCann and Speed together. 2 of the 3, but not all 3!! Nolan is the weak link, his body language was awful on Saturday, although when Braaten came on he improved as he was moved into the middle of the park, but as a left or right sided player - No way. Whatever happens to Campo, all the best, but along with Stelios, we have had your better days!!

Ian H, Bolton says...

Dave BL spot on.Campo is a legend but his day's in the fast premiership are at an end. Nolan was excellent when he moved centre midfield but Alonso bossed and run the show along with Gary Speed.
Bratten is an absolute star and his communication with Anelka for his goal was excellent - one quality player finding another in the right place with the right quality pass to finish the game.
