PHIL Gartside will confirm the appointment of Gary Megson as manager of Bolton Wanderers today against a rising tide of objections from supporters.
The Wanderers chairman is fully aware that the 48-year-old, who quit Leicester City yesterday, is an unpopular choice, but he is convinced Megson is the man best suited to lead the battle for Premiership survival.
It emerged last night that the Manchester-born journeyman - a tough tackling midfielder who played for 10 clubs and who has already bossed seven in a 12-year managerial career - was the man Gartside identified all along as the best equipped candidate to succeed Sammy Lee, who left the club last week after just 14 games in charge.
He interviewed others, including former Liverpool, Blackburn and Newcastle manager, Graeme Souness, but he has been a long-time admirer of the abrasive, down-to-earth Megson and he finally got his man yesterday when he agreed an undisclosed compensation settlement with Leicester chairman Milan Mandaric.

Looks like the board is putting the plans in place for life in the championship. All I can assume is that he comes cheap as that would appeal to Mr Gartside and Co. I can't wait to hear what basis he was appointed as his C.V. is mothing to write home about. We're all doomed.

Sammy wasn't given enough time.
He wasn't given enough money. he wanted to sign good young English players like Scott Carson but was not backed.
Campo told him he wanted to leave so he didn't pick him. Nobody offered Campo the money so he stayed, Sammy picked him.
Sammy was on the brink of getting Saha on loan (Yes I know he's injury prone) through his networks at the top level.
Sammy lost 2 players to Newcastle and had 3 others who want to leave (your 3 best).
The crowds were going down because of the poor football. Sammy was attempting to change that, to bring better football.
There was some backbiting from the dressing room but not widespread problems as you have been lead to believe.
All of the above are facts about your club. It may gall you to hear them from a Manc but I am also a proper football fan & was disgusted by what happened to Sam.
The consequences of the above is the Megson era.

It has to be protest time for real tonight - we can't just let our club be treated this way, can we? Practically everyone is in agreement, we don't want Megson. Are people just going to stand idly by whilst Gartside rides roughshod over the wishes of the fans. This issue is no longer about trying to back a failure of a manager,or a squad of players its about where BWFC are going to be in the NEXT 10 or 20 years. I'll be protesting.

I am devasted. According to Sky Megson has a 15% success rate winning 12 of his last 58 games in charge of various football clubs. I know it will not happen but Sunday's game is on TV and how would it look if we boycott the game. Imagine empty stands live on TV, soak it up Gartside as you are a disgrace. Our key players will not stay under this guy who is a FAILURE as a football manager.

The vehicle Davies has used for the takeover of his hometown Lancashire club, is the E Davies Trust, set up for his and his family's benefit, and Moonshift Investments. Both are administered by the Bermuda Trust Company, which is owned by The Bank of Bermuda. "The E Davies Trust," documents issued by Bolton make clear, "does not publish financial information."
Duckworth, while he explained that Davies is a Bolton fan who goes to almost every game home and away, acknowledged that he is a businessman whose funding and takeover is not being done for charity. His loans, Duckworth said, charge interest "at a premium which reflects risk, which is high at a football club".
He painted a depressing picture for the famous old club, a founder member of the Football League in 1888, its history spattered with glory - the first Wembley FA Cup win in 1923 and the Nat Lofthouse- inspired 1958 victory - and tragedy; 33 people were killed in the Burnden Park crushing disaster in 1946.
Now, despite the footballing renaissance in their landmark new home, they were floundering for survival as the Co-op Bank, which readily lent money to football in rose-tinted days, looked to reduce its exposure as wages ballooned, ITV Digital and the transfer market collapsed, and the Nationwide League suffered an administration epidemic.

why is there no mention of the players involvement in all of this if it wasnt for big egos and the big i am (you know who you are) we wouldnt be complaining about the completely useless megson ,ok little sam wasnt my first choice but you could see things slowly improving now all i can see is the championship and beyond

Let me say straight away that I am not a Gartside fan and I was one of those who never wanted Sammy Lee, but in appointing Megson I can see where Gartsides coming from! Megson is similar in many ways to Big Sam, no-nonsense, tough talking, uncompromising, pragmatic, will do anything to win a game, defensive minded and with a reputation for having well organised defensive teams. He did get West Brom promoted and kept them in the premier league. Since then he hasnt done anything of note but at Bolton he will have better players. Sure the much talked about attacking style will go but we need to survive at all costs, Megson might be the answer. Now cue the abuse!
