PHIL Gartside will confirm the appointment of Gary Megson as manager of Bolton Wanderers today against a rising tide of objections from supporters.
The Wanderers chairman is fully aware that the 48-year-old, who quit Leicester City yesterday, is an unpopular choice, but he is convinced Megson is the man best suited to lead the battle for Premiership survival.
It emerged last night that the Manchester-born journeyman - a tough tackling midfielder who played for 10 clubs and who has already bossed seven in a 12-year managerial career - was the man Gartside identified all along as the best equipped candidate to succeed Sammy Lee, who left the club last week after just 14 games in charge.
He interviewed others, including former Liverpool, Blackburn and Newcastle manager, Graeme Souness, but he has been a long-time admirer of the abrasive, down-to-earth Megson and he finally got his man yesterday when he agreed an undisclosed compensation settlement with Leicester chairman Milan Mandaric.
