Megson is the man for Gartside

PHIL Gartside will confirm the appointment of Gary Megson as manager of Bolton Wanderers today against a rising tide of objections from supporters.

The Wanderers chairman is fully aware that the 48-year-old, who quit Leicester City yesterday, is an unpopular choice, but he is convinced Megson is the man best suited to lead the battle for Premiership survival.

It emerged last night that the Manchester-born journeyman - a tough tackling midfielder who played for 10 clubs and who has already bossed seven in a 12-year managerial career - was the man Gartside identified all along as the best equipped candidate to succeed Sammy Lee, who left the club last week after just 14 games in charge.

He interviewed others, including former Liverpool, Blackburn and Newcastle manager, Graeme Souness, but he has been a long-time admirer of the abrasive, down-to-earth Megson and he finally got his man yesterday when he agreed an undisclosed compensation settlement with Leicester chairman Milan Mandaric.

Match day is a great feeling to have for me, after all my team is in Europe and play Portugese club Braga which I am really looking forward to watching, altough my team is managerless after sacking Sammy Lee who had the majority of the fans backing at his appointment, things went wrong from the start for him, Gartside on the other hand who has to appoint another manager with Gary Megson the favourite to take the position will and have to not suffer the same kind of misfortune that Sammy Lee had to endure, so who knows if Gartside will be right or wrong again in his choice of manager, one thing for sure and that is I doubt very much that I will be watching another European match this time next season, more like a night match against Leyton Orient or Southend who are the top 2 of the Coca Cola League 1 at the moment.

I really hope I am wrong in this assumption I have made, really I do.

If it's a done deal, let's not turn our backs on the team who have had no say in this. Who knows, they may play much better now that they (for now) are not at loggerheads with the manager. Lets hope that previous bad form was not all due to bad management but to a general malaise with Lee's attitude and lack of respect for them.

THIS IS THE BEGINNING OF THE END FOR GARTSIDE.

He has finally shown his true colours now - the fans of OUR club mean nothing to him.

He cleary knows nothing about running the club and has in a single move condemned this club. I suspect him and Davies are only interested in the parachute payment.

Megson will be out before the end of the season. We would have been better sticking with Sammy Lee.

Ok so it's not ideal but now we have no option but to get behind the new manager and the team and hope "98.3%" of us were wrong.

Milan has proved yet again what an excellent judge of managers he is.
Get rid of good ones and bring in mediocre ones.
What a nightmare and I'm not a Leicester fan.
Can someone tell me what Megson has actually achieved as a manager?

take a struggling team - play offs next year. automatic promotion year after. relegation. promotion. and then he struggled so we got rid of him.
Good manager for this level - at forest he was rubbish yes but hey they're hardly world beaters now are they.

Well, Megson is the new man and I can't say I'm thrilled.

But, who else was there who was available? Nobody at the club wanted Warnock, who in my opinion would have been a better choice despite his history with us.

Reid would have been dreadful and all the good managers are with clubs and doing well, hence the reason they are considered good managers.

Lets give him a chance, Milan won't hang about if we are struggling, but I don't think we will. We still have the same team Allen had, so why should we be so negative. Most people thought we could be up there with this team under Allen, so why not Megson?

He was manager of the year in 2002, so why not in 2007/08?

I really don't understand what I'm reading about Gary Megson. 4the captain seems to have forgotten 2 automatic promotions to the Premier League with West Brom.Megson took us from being an ailing embarrsement & last day survival to the Prem in just 2 years. This was not due to luck either. Several shrewd moves in the transfer market helped. He is a good manager & he signed Kanu. KANU at ALBION !!!! We couldn't beleive it. It's only under Robson & Mowbray that Megson's signings have gone onto better things. He will get the Foxes results & make them difficult to beat like he did with the Baggies. As for Forest, there are so many problems at that club it does'nt matter who the manager is.

You can never tell how successful/unsuccess
ful a manager will be. Megson did well for a while but the wheels fell off at Forest, so what. Let's judge the guy on what he does at Leicester in the future. One thing's for certain, he know's more about the job than any of us.

When I read that Warnock was in line for the position I thought that was bad enough- but Megson is a complete waste of time. He was a crap player and is worse manager. So I feel for Leicester .
I think you will have yet another manager in the next six months but by then it may be too late to save the season.
Milan- You have made one big mistake!!!!!!!!

As a WBA fan I thought exactly the same, when we appointed him. With 8 games to go, he brought in free transfers and saved us from a certain relegation to the now League 1.He got us to the Play offs the following season. The season after that Automatic promotion to the promised land.Okay straight relegation. But undaunted he got us straight back up at first attempt. The football isn`t always pretty. But we have just banked £30m in player transfers following our Premiership experience.Megson made this happen!I eat my words Mr Megson.Your a legend!!

He'l ruin you. His 'brand of football' and his over aggressive approach towards the dressing room. He lost the dressing room after his first month in charge, how can any of you be looking forward to this terrible terrible man.

One thing I will say though is that he does have an eye for decent players BUT whats the point when you just lump them into a
3-5-2 'hoof' system of football. He is the king of 1-0 wins and sitting back, west brom fans love him but they were so starved of success for so long that they would have welcomed any clown to take them forward then back again.

I remember not being thrilled with his appointment either. Actually heard some Megson out chants after 3 games but look at what happened at Albion after that. Maybe Forest were just so rubbish they were/are beyond help???

Can we at least give him a little time? I know he wasn't Pele, but he has commitment & passion and also the belief that Leicester ARE a Premiership side. After all, do we want a Boss that spends more time in the stands than in the dug out (Warnock) or has the pace of a fleeting slug (Reid)? ALLEGEDLY!!!

Sammy wasn't given enough time.
He wasn't given enough money. he wanted to sign good young English players like Scott Carson but was not backed.
Campo told him he wanted to leave so he didn't pick him. Nobody offered Campo the money so he stayed, Sammy picked him.
Sammy was on the brink of getting Saha on loan (Yes I know he's injury prone) through his networks at the top level.
Sammy lost 2 players to Newcastle and had 3 others who want to leave (your 3 best).
The crowds were going down because of the poor football. Sammy was attempting to change that, to bring better football.
There was some backbiting from the dressing room but not widespread problems as you have been lead to believe.
All of the above are facts about your club. It may gall you to hear them from a Manc but I am also a proper football fan & was disgusted by what happened to Sam.
The consequences of the above is the Megson era.

1. Where has all the money gone? OK our kettle king owner can't compete with Abramovich's millions, but what about the extra TV money? Its not gone on Andy O'Brien and Gavin Mccann surely?
2. Why, after stating the requirements for the new manager have you appointed someone without those attributes?
3. Just what did happen with Sam that made you spit your dummy out?
4. Why did you lie to the fans about the Okoocha transfer as shown on Panarama?
%. Why do you think the fans hate you so much?

The vehicle Davies has used for the takeover of his hometown Lancashire club, is the E Davies Trust, set up for his and his family's benefit, and Moonshift Investments. Both are administered by the Bermuda Trust Company, which is owned by The Bank of Bermuda. "The E Davies Trust," documents issued by Bolton make clear, "does not publish financial information."

Duckworth, while he explained that Davies is a Bolton fan who goes to almost every game home and away, acknowledged that he is a businessman whose funding and takeover is not being done for charity. His loans, Duckworth said, charge interest "at a premium which reflects risk, which is high at a football club".

He painted a depressing picture for the famous old club, a founder member of the Football League in 1888, its history spattered with glory - the first Wembley FA Cup win in 1923 and the Nat Lofthouse- inspired 1958 victory - and tragedy; 33 people were killed in the Burnden Park crushing disaster in 1946.

Now, despite the footballing renaissance in their landmark new home, they were floundering for survival as the Co-op Bank, which readily lent money to football in rose-tinted days, looked to reduce its exposure as wages ballooned, ITV Digital and the transfer market collapsed, and the Nationwide League suffered an administration epidemic.

Ok, deep breath, WTF !!!! We have the same team that finished 7th last year, we have european football (not for much longer, granted) and the best we can atract to this club in MEGSON ??? I'm not having it, does Gartside actually think us fans would mind waiting a week or so longer until we can find someone competent enough to actually halt our plummet from grace ? or would those kinds of people cost real money ... hmmm, imagine how much the club will lose when we are relegated ...Pull your finger out and listen to the fans that pay your sodding wages !!!

It'll break my heart but I for one will be staying away in disgust and dont say then Im not a real fan, I just can't watch my club swirl down the sewer without so much as a whimper. We are a laughing stock and no-one on the board seems to care anymore. why is that ???

Villa,Blues,Wolves,
WBA,even Wallsall fans taking the p**S.
She said ,
WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON AT BWFC.
We are a laughing stock.

A lot of people are planning boycotting sunday's game vs Villa and I have to admit that i am tempted to join in. Firstly it is on TV so i won't miss the game anyway and we need to send a message that the world will see, no better way of doing that than a live sky game. Phil Gartside has shown utter contempt for the opinions of BWFC supporters in this matter. The popular fans choice seemed to be Paul Jewel but I feel that Dave Whelan's public blessing was a mere smokescreen as he secretly knows Jewel isn't interested in the BWFC job and is now laughing his pie shaped head off at present events @ the Reebok.

Leicester fans are jumping for jo and cannot believe we have done them a favour by taking Megson from them, remmeber that this is a guy with only a 15% success rate in the Premier League so do the maths and you will see that 15% success in our remaining 28 games will not keep us in the Premier League! I could never totally walk away from my beloved club and I for one will not be taking this any further than Sunday but no one person is bigger thn BWFC and Gartslime needs to see that, in no uncertain terms, so how better to show our disatisfaction that staying away for 1 game?

As for all the supporters that are on various message boards saying that they are done with the club? You are not proper supporters anyway! You can moan all you like but at the end of the day you choose your club and you stick with them through the good times and the bad. There are literally hundreds of lads who went watching BWFC all through the gloomy 80's that don't go nowdays because of the extortionate prices of football today, some have jokingly said to me that they look forward to us going down so that they can afford to go again, and whilst I don't agree with all their sentiments I do understand where they are coming from. The past few years have been an amazing ride for us Bolton fans and we all know that it was BSA we have to thank for that but to have the dream seemingly ripped from under us without so much of a fight is gut wrenching. I just urge you to take this protest no further than Sunday's game....Let's fill the pubs, wear our colours, show all the other Sky regulars your season ticket to make sure they know you are not a part timer and above all....pray we win!!!!

We have to show our disatifaction somehow and I don't fancy protesting to people sat eating prawn sandwiches that don't give a rats that you are outside in the rain so I think that empty seats are the only way that Gartside & Eddie Davies will take notice.......It will be hard but the tv watching nation will understand our protest and hopefully Gartside will step down, it is the best we can hope for at this time i feel.

Let me say straight away that I am not a Gartside fan and I was one of those who never wanted Sammy Lee, but in appointing Megson I can see where Gartsides coming from! Megson is similar in many ways to Big Sam, no-nonsense, tough talking, uncompromising, pragmatic, will do anything to win a game, defensive minded and with a reputation for having well organised defensive teams. He did get West Brom promoted and kept them in the premier league. Since then he hasnt done anything of note but at Bolton he will have better players. Sure the much talked about attacking style will go but we need to survive at all costs, Megson might be the answer. Now cue the abuse!

I took a season off watching the Wanderers, because I couldnt stomach Fat Sam's boring football. When Sammy Lee was appointed, I came back knowing that we'd get to watch some (funnily enough) football.

He was hounded out of the club and never stood a chance and now we've got a worse version of Allardyce.

Expect ST sales to be in 4 figures in 12 months time.

First of all congrats to all you idiots who were so happy when lsl got the sack. secondly Gartside did say he "...had to do something". Well he certainly done something alright. Mr Gartside if you happen to read this - 7 Clubs in 12 years! Now ask your self why. Finally to the person who said Big Sam was an unknown when we signed him, you're wrong. He had succesive promotions with Notts County behind him, whereas Megson is a no mark, no hoper.

Raise some money
Get 20,000 A4 'Red card' made.
Get a cogent spokesperson/fans rep
Tell the media what you are doing
Use one high profile TV game to protest

Ex Stockport County favourite Mike Flynn was Megson's captain during his time at Edgeley Park.
And with the former West Brom and Nottingham Forest boss set to be rubber stamped at the Reebok Stadium, Flynn is not sure his strong arm approach will work on players like Nicolas Anelka and El Hadj Diouf.
"He was a winner and tried to instil that into the players," he said. "He had a great zest for life which initially took us all aback.

"There were no grey areas with Gary. He told you how he wanted things and if you fell short, he smacked you back into line.

"In a way he was quite sergeant majorish.

"My big concern though would be how he would handle guys like Anelka and Diouf.
Old school

"He is really from the old school, he hated the idea of flash cars, personalised number plates and big watches. And he told you that as well.
"He had a good playing career but wasn't in the same class as those players.

"I suppose Bolton may be thinking, if the worst comes to the worst, then they have got a manager who knows what it takes to get out of the Championship."

Out of all the candidates I thought Megson was the worst by far. Now he's our new manager!!! How can the boards thinking be that different from the supporters???

I did'nt have much beleife in LSL, but now I wish he hed stayed on. He was after all a much better alternative than Megson.

We are a lot of Norwegian supporters coming over to see our beloved team several times every season. We are coming this weekend. I have seen Bolton play in all divisions, and must say I prefere the Premiership. But with Megson I think were going down...
