Stayaway Reebok fans: What's the answer?

BOLTON Wanderers are banking on new boss Gary Megson delivering results that will lift them clear of the relegation zone and ease growing concerns over a dramatic drop in attendances.

Crowd figures at the Reebok have slumped to a record low as the Whites have struggled at the wrong end of the Premiership.

We want all supporters to give the club their backing and there are a great number who are and many more will as soon as results start to come

- commercial director, Gareth Moores

And, while they are considering a range of incentives to boost gates, they don't expect any significant improvement until the team starts climbing the table.

"The stark reality is that the club is struggling on the pitch," commercial director, Gareth Moores, said.

"We're in the bottom three and a lot of supporters have voted with their feet.

"What we need to do is deliver results, which I'm sure we will.

"We've seen some terrific performances recently, which we are all confident will soon start to translate into results."

The attendance of 17,624 for Sunday's clash with Middlesbrough was the lowest for a Premier League game since the Reebok opened in September 1997, down almost 800 on the previous low for the Aston Villa game a fortnight earlier.

And although the drop was almost entirely accounted for by the number of visiting supporters, the crowd was 3,500 lower than the correspondiong fixture last season, despite an incentive offering season ticket holders a chance to bring a friend and get a free ticket for the forthcoming UEFA Cup game against Aris Salonica.

"Previous incentives, when we have reduced ticket prices, have been very successful," Moores said. "But we had comments from season ticket holders asking What is in it for us?' So instead of reducing the ticket price, we did it slightly different for the Middlesbrough game and offered the incentive to the season ticket holders.

"Unfortunately, that was not anywhere near as successful, but we'll certainly review the situation and might consider doing something similar again, although it's not necessarily a pricing thing. Results and performances are the main factor."

Attendances are currently averaging 20,558 - down 13 per cent on last season's average which was 6.5 per cent down on the previous year's - despite a 10 per cent drop in season ticket prices. A variety of factors have contributed to the decline: the lack of a big name signing, 10 home games in the first three months, and the managerial turmoil.

But it is results - Wanderers have won just one of their first 13 Premier League games - that are proving a turn-off for the fans.

"The Aston Villa game was sandwiched between two cup games and clearly attending Premier League football is a (financial) burden on every family," Moores acknowledged. "Many selected one or both the cup gmes and chose to sit at home and watch the Aston Villa game on Sky.

"We have had a lot of home games in a short space of time. But we can't get complacent. What will bring people back to the Reebok is good football and winning games.

"We can slash prices - as we did for the first European game (against Rabotnicki) when we only charged £5 - but even that didn't fill the stadium."

The Boro gate - more than 10,000 down on the Reebok's capacity - came just three days after 4,000 Wanderers fans cheered the team's dramatic 2-2 draw at Bayern Munich in the UEFA Cup. But Wanderers acknowledged that many of those who travelled to Germany had taken a financial hammering.

"There were a lot of positives to take from that, which might have suggested there'd be an attendance bounce," Moores said, "but, on the other hand, a lot of people spent an awful lot of money going to Munich and there are, clearly, more attractive fixtures than Bolton-Middlesbrough.

"It is a concern for us, absolutely. But it isn't just a Bolton Wanderers problem. There has been an attendance decline across a number of clubs in recent years. The one thing we have to recognise is that our position in the league is far lower than the position we have enjoyed in recent years.

"We want all supporters to give the club their backing and there are a great number who are and many more will as soon as results start to come.

"Season ticket sales were down to just under 14,000 in the summer but we had just come off the back of four years as the fifth best performing team in the Premier League. Sam Allardyce left the club and a lot of people thought we had reached the top of the mountain."

A decent Manager who can play our best 11 players in their proper positions would help.

I think that most reasonable fans will agree that we have overachieved over the past few years. 20 years ago when we were schlepping around the likes of Scarborough, Halifax and York, nobody would ever have believed we would be playing Bayern Munich, Marseilles and Red Star Belgrade in Europe.

But we managed it and expectations rose, as did the crowds and a new stadium.

Now it looks like we are struggling and are under achieving. Lets face it, most of us thought we would struggle this season after the way we finished last season.

There are many reasons for this, which have been discussed in this forum but one thing that annoys me more than most is the way that the fans or 'customers' as the board like to call us, are treated.

We are seen as the root cause of the problem. We complain when things don't go well and have the audacity to pick and choose which matches we attend. Well after the game on Sunday, is it any wonder? I have been a season ticket holder for many years and go to all home games but don't travel away as I think football is too expensive. Over the years we have had some great atmospheres at the Reebok but the place seems like it has died. No doubt the United match will be the same. No atmosphere and a resignation that we are here on one of our 'free games'.

The board are looking at new ways of delivering the product to our fans. What a crock of ****. What is wrong with a winning team or a team that gets beaten, but at least has a bloody good go? A set of fans that gets behind the team whatever the situation. It can be done, I bet a large proportion of those that went to Munich didn't expect a draw or a win.

It is time that the board looked closer to home and sorted out the problems themselves. It is very easy to say that there are not enough coming through the gates. Make it more attractive.

It says on my season ticket 'This is My Club'.
Well it doesn't feel like it.

I feel like we are people they see as a money making opportunity, who can be sponged for every penny they can get out of us. Even outside with those idiots trying every week to flog me a BWFC credit card. The board seem that they are just looking at money making instead of the real reason for existance which is in the name of the club.

As far as I am aware our name is Bolton Wanderers Football Club. It is my club, in that I support it, but there is very little else I feel like I have in common with it. They don't listen to fans, as has been bourne out in the past month or so.

They face alot more people turning their backs on the club and have only themselves to blame.

Sorry for the ramble but thats how I feel.

Forza Whites!

The board is paying the price for not doing enough in the summer, this was the first season i did not get a season ticket in 15. why because there was no incentive to buy one, it would have cost me £466, instead i got a membership for £20 and get £5 off per game, it only works out a little cheaper for a season ticket and thats if you dont miss a game all season. They should have had a bigger discount lasting all through the summer.

secondly its how they have sold out on the bread and butter fans instead of the so called family support, try getting rid of that band, they are more embarrasing than the attendances.

that munich excuse is lost on me because i was out there and everyone i spoke to has stopped going the reebok not due to on the field but all the other stuff that lets the reebok down.

Completely agree... i feel like the fun has been taken out of the game because of commercialism and arrogance.

The fans have been treated awfully by the club over the last 6 or so years. People might say 'well they have offered reduced tickets' etc etc, but lets face it, they've only done that because the ground isnt selling out.

If the stadium was full every week, they wouldnt be offering us anything.

in the 97/98 season we struggled the whole season, but we still had a crowd of 25k every week. But at that time, the demographics of the support was changing. Many of the fans that followed the whites at burnden, home and away, no longer go. In the first instance because of the price, in the second instance because we used to stand in the terraces and enjoy banter - but are no longer allowed to, and thirdly because Bolton Wanderers was a FOOTBALL CLUB. Now it is being treated as a business and we are the customers instead of fans.

This is our club? You're having a laugh...

How to increase attendances:-
1. Introduce standing areas to create an atmosphere.
2. Improve facilities so that fans can relax before and after the match in warmth and comfort with fairly priced refreshments. This will stop everyone arriving and leaving at the same time and stopping the gridlock.
3. Reduce ticket prices. A 10% reduction is not enough. Price should be £10-£15

The reason's above are why me and a dozen of my mates stopped going. Sort it out and we will return. simple as that.

has anyone ever had dealings with the head steward? a more arrogant and self-important person you would struggle to find.

people like him are ruining the whole point of football - shouting at fans like children "stand up, sit down, stop smoking, stop swearing, stop pointing".

shut your mouth!

how many times have you been thrown out by an over aggressive steward 5 mins after you have just paid £36 for a ticket?

how many times have they moved a whole orchestra next to where you sit thinking it will make atmosphere better when it acctually makes it worse?

How many times has the club sold your season ticket seat from undernath you because they got greedy and decided to move the renewal deadline forward a month?

you my friend are an idiot, and if you got to all the away games as we do then you would see how clubs are run properly.

the attendances have dropped even more simply because Gartside is a fkwit and appointed the cheapest possible option for manager, im still baffled how you interview some1 for a job see that they have won 7 in 40odd prem games then decide he must be good enough to manage us! Instead of turning up week in week out with Gartside out banners and protesting at the tw4t ruining our club, alot of just decided to save their time and money! Cant really blame them really, im only going in future when i get hold of a free ticket and theres enough of them about because even season ticket holders are not bothering! Terracing is NOT allowed in either the Premiership or the Championship at this moment in time - so that is a no-goer.

What will help are wins by the team - but only a small fraction will return.

Another big help will the the complete reducing of prices - not just ticket pricing but th eprices of food and drink - and also a greater selection. Why can't the normal fans have a choice of lagers, bitters and snacks like they do in the boxes and suites?

Wholly reducing prices will, and does in practice, bring in greater returns than at present due to people buying more. Cheaper it is the more people will buy.

Finally - Gartside, Duckworth (a failed business family - remember even Prestons of Bolton is now owned by an out-of Bolton company due to the Duckworths putting it into adiministration) and Warburton. They have let the club down far too many times over the last 30 or so years!!! Make Reebok actually have some financial clout within the club instead of just being quiet sponsors - they should have some say in how the club is managed and run as they do put millions into the club for what?????

1. Way club views & treats its fans.
2. Lack of Ambition from the board, i.e. Expenditure & Managerial appointments
3. Quality of Football, lack of passion from players and lack of commitment
4. Poor Matchday experience, way too many nanny's/jobsworth in florescent jackets

I will alawys be a bolton fan, when i paid a small entry fee at Burnden I found that relative to the 'sparce ' conditions and facilities. However in this new age of business where we are ' customers ' I except a reasonable service for my entrance fee, the catering at Reebok as been dismal in both service and pricing since the Reebok opened this exacerbates the real problem of the sterile non atmospheric surroundings of the Reebok policed by unpersonable cheap labour over the top stewards ( Except for when real trouble flares up and they go missing !)Its time the club ceased the concept that it is our duty to turn up and for them to get their act together. Allardyce took Bolton to dizzy heights but it is the fall-out with Gartside (and not just Sam Allardyce but his whole family) that led to Big Sam walking out - far too many false promises from Phil'n'Eddie. Sam knew what he was doing when he went - na dhad to show the club how he really felt - sure its hurt the team and the fans but he biggest aim, i feel, was to destroy Gartside. Big Sam has now gone and that mantle should now be picked up by us fans. Destroy Gartside and the rest of the board.

Look at what they have done over the years....
The only success was Big Sam. Even the Reebok is a let down - why couldn't they call it New Burnden Park, sponsored by Reebok!!!! The new club badge is a sham - either bring back the original court of arms or just bring back the red rose at least.

Far too many false promises and too much in-house fighting has led to where we are.

Gartside, Davies, Warburton and Duckworth HAVE to go if this club is to stay in the Premiership and succeed as a top club!

Saturday - Get up, go to game at 3pm in the afternoon

2007
Saturday - Get up, find a paper to see if we are playing that day and if so what time we kick off. If not playing Saturday find what time on Sunday we might be kicking off.

Oh yes, don't forget there is the other option on a Monday night as well.

As much as I detest the lot we play next week I take my hat off to them for backing the police in turning down Setanta's request to move the game from just before christmas to 8pm Christmas Eve.

That is another thing that is killing not only Bolton but other clubs as well.

The reason for the low attendences could be that the genuine fans get sick of listening to these idiot who just want to go to games and wiat for Hunt and Nolan to mess up so they can shout rubbish.

Also all Carling cup and non-glamourous UEFA matches should be £5 each. To be honest a ticket should be no more the £15 at the best of times. By being greedy it will only every come back on the club, attendences will be down, team under-performs, home record is much poorer, Bolton have lower league finish. Its non nuclear physics.

Make Reebok actually have some financial clout within the club instead of just being quiet sponsors - they should have some say in how the club is managed and run as they do put millions into the club for what?????
we know terracing is NOT allowed mate but they are looking at changing the rules and allowing a terraced area at grounds. This would bring a little of the match day experiance back, ie- when a jobsworth moans at you for swearing you can slap him and dissapear into the crowd lol fking hate them idiot stewards its like trying to watch a match on double yellow lines with a traffic warden watching, wank4rs!

At Munich last week, i saw a big difference between the way that they treat their fans and the way that our fans are treated at the Reebok.

Last year, they opened the stadium as an all seater and when the fans of the club complained because they wanted to stand up, they created a standing area for 6,000 home fans at domestic matches.

Their kiosks were also enormous compared to the littles ones we have to put up with, and also the attendants behind the kiosks knew what they were doing.

I also liked the idea of using your ticket to get into the stadium grounds, and then being able to wander around the stadium without being treated like a child.

Too many people at BWFC have created a sense of self importance - the stewards in particular - and treat every fan as guilty until proven innocent, rather than the other way round.

Saturday - Get up, find a paper to see if we are playing that day and if so what time we kick off. If not playing Saturday find what time on Sunday we might be kicking off.

ABSOLUTELY RIGHT Youri....

How annoying can this be? We do have a life...some of work away a few days a week, value our weekends, and cannot make monday or wed/thu night?

Also the way many clubs (us included) bow down to the TV people is embarrasing? Why not ask the fans if they want to reschedule a game to a sunday? Where does this extra money go?

Greenhalgh's Pies £1.95? Probably more than double they are in the shop.

Bottle of water £1.20. Bottle in Tesco 100 yards away 39p

Shirts in club shop £39.99. Shirts in Sports Direct or whatever its called these days £32.00?

Entertainment value at present - zip (and yes I know you take the rough with the smooth)

Ticket Prices in all football too expensive compared to most other forms of entertainment.

One reason and one reason only for the fall in attendances: cost. Phil can put out as many schemes and special offers and incentives as he likes, the fact is the overall package from ticket prices to car park costs to replica shirt prices is just too expensive. A vast amount of money is flowing into the club as a result of the new TV deal and what do the fans get? 10% off season ticket prices. Its an insult. Greedy players and even greedier agents are taking all the money and what do we get in return? 18th in the Premier League. Why should someone on average or below average earnings spend a significant portion of his income on watching players earning £10,000/£20,000/£30,
000 + per week - PER WEEK!!! - and delivering the kind of performances we have seen lately.
Get a grip Phil. Think long term for once. You've got to build up the fan base, and that means charging a reasonable amount for ticket prices - with all the money in the game it should be a maximum of £10 per match. Attendances won't increase overnight even at that price, cause the fans have been shafted for years and are fed up with it, but long term it will work because football will be affordable again. The town wants to support the football club but simply cannot afford to do so. Drastic action is required and is required now, cause the fans live in the real world of £1 per litre petrol, rising mortgages and utility bills and not the money-no-object world of the players they support. Get a grip and realise that without the fans you have NOTHING!

Going to a match on SATURDAY at 3pm used to be about having a few hours laugh with your mates and letting all your built-up frustration from being a working drone all week out at the ref and opposing team.

But over the last 15 years it's not been about trying to keep these hard core fans from Burnden it's been about promoting families and making everything nice and happy and inviting.

So the sales pitch is now to familites. But the average family in Bolton can't afford to bring everyone so they have to watch on tv instead.

Whilst doing this, the club have alienated all the hardcore support that don't want dancers, 'I feel good' flags (when we don't), silly drummers and grab-happy stewards.

Football used to be about turning up and creating an atmosphere to scare the $hit out of the opposing players, now it's watered down and boring like the fizzy drinks on sale.

I'm still a season ticket holder but it seems people WILL rather go to the pub with their mates where they CAN have a laugh and CAN swear at the telly. OR they get people around and watch it on the TV. Which is the one single thing which is really killing our club.

Football clubs wants their cake and eat it. They want Football to be the reason why Sky keep selling boxes and then in turn paying large amounts of money fot TV rights but are then flabbergasted when people would rather get the same entertainment by sitting on their backsides in their own home.

We don't have masses of extra fans that are dying to get into the ground and all small clubs are starting to feel the effect and that's what we actually are, a small club.

The performances are shocking at home although not the main reason for the stay aways I think. We want to see a team TRY and beat the opponent. We are the HOME team. OK, against the top 4, yes we have to defend properly but that Boro match was absolutely unbelievable. Our team from 10 years ago with Super John up front would have won 2-0.

Anyways, rant over, because my lunchtime is. I could go on and on about all the problems at our club and I can't believe that not one of them inside the plushly decorated offices can see it.

And just to answer some other peoples points about match day prices, I spoke to many friendly Bayern fans (I'm sure most of us who went did) and one in particular that I had a long discussion with told me that the price of a Bundesliga match in the lower tier for memebers was 8 (eight!!) Does anyone now understand why the German league, despite not being glamorous, is so well attended, and why we are so hacked off?

And I still say we should have an unreserved seating area until the time when terraces may return.

Not too sure its the standing issue that keeps most folks away, whilst to me a great idea. Peoples salaries arent going up like the price of so many mandatory expense items...and Football isn't cheap...If i take my 11yr kid, plus the parking, food etc tis close to 70-75quid...for what? the value proposition just isnt there anymore..

There will always be an hardcore lot whom will go no matter what...and i take my hat off to them to keep motivating themselves week in week out..

Last season i went to nearly all the away games and with 2 season tickets i spent over £2300 (tickets, petrol, parking, food etc)....

This is a lot of dough for most people.....

My own view with regard to the amount of money in the game ...is that at some point the bubble will burst.....

Whereas at the moment we first have to figure out when we're playing, then look to see if its going to cost me up to 39 quid for a ticket or 20-something before working out if i can afford it.

That is the one thing that would give the club, and Premiership football, generally, a masssive boost. It winds me up when I see games on TV from around Europe with large, passionate, STANDING crowds. Why cant we have that luxury? If just 1 or 2 of the 8 stands at the Reebok was standing, what a boost it would give to everyone, whether they used the terraces or not. On a positive note, the fireworks have gone, the flag wavers have gone and the music when we score has gone. In the short term can we now just get rid of the ridiculously loud pre-match music and the band? Terraces would be the icing on the cake, but we know it will never happen.

I think this is a very good explanation.

The current drop has come imo because people are fed up with how gartside runs things. Forget Megson, we're stuck with him, and he at least is a determined if limited manager. The board are showing a lack of ambition as said which not only annoys the fans but when you listen to the words come out of gartslime's mouth you just want to punch him. It's our club, not his, we're the people who support the team through anything, but at the same time we don't need to be treated like dirt or like we're at a circus for doing so.

Yeah, performances aren't good, but that isn't the reason, it's an excuse from the board to hide their failings. We need to create a great atmosphere of noise, support and intimidation for other fans.

And the guys in fluorescent coats should've been at Leicester's filbert street a few years ago, the abuse we got from the FAMILY stand was so foul mouthed you couldn't help but laugh.

Went to the San Siro to watch Inter Milan last year and paid 19 euros (12 pounds for a seat on the second tier).

Got cheap air fares too which probably worked out in total at less than the £39 quid you would fork out at the Reebok.

The toilets at the Reebok are better though.

European football is much cheaper than the Premier League.

So why is it we (the paying customers - the very reason the club exists) can see this, and the business itself cannot.

Against Boro was the first time I felt truly ripped off - and maybe it was because of the Bayern game, so what - its up to the club to respond and be pro-active.

Phil Gartside doesn't care about filling the ground, he knows he can rely on enough mugs to pay inflated prices to not have to make any effort.

I stand to be corrected, but I feel that our club just don't care about us ONE BIT.

Right lets examine this list.

I've never once had an issue with a steward at the Reebok. I know some who have, but wonder whether ours are any worse than the stewards at Old Trafford or Anfield.

Parking prices, well the club are locked into a pricing scheme to try and persuade people to use other forms of transport, they agreed this with the council as part of the terms for the Reebok development. Its to try and keep cars down. I have emailed the club about this and complained about the prices, but there is little they can do. They do offer discounted parking with a season ticket.

Food prices are no different to any football club. Simple answer, don't buy food in the ground.

Money available, NOBODY has ever said how much money will be available. Money has been spent every season. The club is not "stockpiling" cash, everything is re-invested. Including Davies own cash.

Backroom staff, they wanted to leave, how is that the fault of the club? And how is it a case of "fans being mistreated"?

Our club is currently taking one of Wolves most highly regarded loyal backroom staff, does that mean that our fans are now being "treated well"?

Jay,
I'm not defending the appointment of either of our last 2 managers, but firstly we cant keep throwing that West Brom statistic at Megson, by that rule Billy Davies, Paul Jewell, Mick McCarthy, Aidy Boothroyd, Bruce Rioch etc etc etc etc are crap managers - not true. So stop being lazy in quoting that, its as if we're saying being a manager outside the top flight doesnt count. Secondly, we had BSA as manager for the first half of 2007 but that didnt exactly having people flocking to the Reebok did it? Crowds have been dropping for years, there are loads of reasons, but who our manager is is probably bottom of the list.

If you want to bring the fans back then obviously they need to povide really colourful fireworks before the game. I used to love seeing those fireworks go off. Fantastic. And the man with the flag and those cheerleaders. Lovely. I did'nt bother staying for the game after the pre-match entertainment. I used to leave before kick-off to avoid the queues.
I am sure my views will be taken into account by the Reebok hierarchy. You see I am a simpleton, just like all the fans. That is why they treat us like they do. They can appoint crap managers with the help of dodgy agents, promise signings that never materialise, charge rip off prices for everything. The list goes on. If only they would listen instead of treating us like morons there might be a chance of turning this around, but I fear that Gartslime and co are going to drag us down into the pit from whence we will never return.

Standing around waiting ages to be served for a coffee at over inflated prices doesn't help matters.

Allowing our most successful manager in recent times and key players to leave, without adequate replacement doesn't help matters.

Appointing a novice manager without a clue doesn't help.

Appointing a low profile manager with little prem experience doesn't help.

food Menu board hasnt changed in 10yrs!

Also, I dont understand how anyone can feel ripped off apart from the away fans (who are always overcharged at the Reebok). Complain all you like about the football on offer, but the prices are almost embarrassingly cheap this season. I was paying more per game on average 10 years ago in Division 1.
paying less 10 years ago in division 1??? thats the biggest lie i've seen on here... EVER! when we moved to the reebok, the prices more than doubled!!
OK I may have been exaggerating SLIGHTLY but I'm certainly not lieing. Ignoring the rip-off Cat A+ Chelsea game, 5 of the last 6 games at the Reebok v Villa, Boro, City, Braga & Rabotnik have cost less than £75 for me and less than £30 for each of my 2 kids. If I had gone to 5 games 10 years ago it would not have been this cheap, whatever competition they had been in. Can anyone justify not going to the cup games at the Reebok on the grounds of cost? And Category B and C games league games, particularly with a membership, are very affordable, its nonsense for people to say they're too expensive.

steve, daubhill says...
2:40pm Wed 14 Nov 07

prices may be SLIGHTLY cheaper than last year but they are still way too expensive. Sunday football used to be a novelty and attracted great crowds - remember the Stoke game at Burnden in the mid 70s - now it just spoils the weekend. I'm guessing most of us are disgruntled by events on the pitch and the farcical decisions in the wake of Big Sam leaving, but i think it's the problems in football in general that are as much to blame. Terracing was better than being forced to sit; 3pm saturday kick offs are better than Sunday lunchtime or afternoon, or gawd forbid Saturday tea time, and the sight of over priced players driving around in cars that cost more money than I may possibly earn in the rest of my working life, paid in part by my over priced season ticket also help disillusion fans forced to pay prices that don't represent good value for money. Sky claims it has made the premier league the best in Europe. What they have done is turn it into a goldrush with average foreign players swarming over to swamp the market at the expense of our home grown talent. The knock on effect is our national team are struggling to qualify from a seeming mediocre group because the English game is too multi-national. Bolton have been one of those teams to exploit the overseas market and while it allows us to buy better players and therefore gain more success - we have contributed to the decline of the national game. The whole game is heading for boiling point..

Steve, see my earlier post re prices of 5 of the last 6 games. The embarrassment is sitting opposite a Spurs fan who goes to the same away grounds as we go to and has to pay £10 or £15 more than us but still takes 3 or 4 times as many fans, or in the case of European games at White Hart Lane about £25 more than we pay. Then they still get the same size crowd as they get for Prem games and we get 50% less. If I could only say we were getting ripped off I would be less embarrassed (at least I can use that excuse when we dont sell out v Man U). As it is I hate to admit to fans of most other clubs how cheap our games actually are.

wE NEED TO CREATE AN EXCITING ATMOSPHERE AND REDUCED PRICES TO GET THE FANS BACK. UNFORTUNATELY ATMOSPHERE HAS TO COME FROM THE FANS NOT FROM CHEERLEADERS, BANDS, FLAG WAVERS OR FIREWORKS.

WENT TO THE OLD OLYMPIC STADIUM IN MUNICH AND NOTICED THEY HAD SEATS WHICH HAD A SMALL BARRIER ON THE BACK OF EACH SEAT SO THAT THE PERSON BEHIND COULD STAND UP WITHOUT A PROBLEM. THIS COULD BE THE HALFWAY HOUSE WE ARE LOOKING FOR. WE COULD HAVE A SECTION BEHIND THE GOALS(SOUTH STAND) FOR THIS. IF YOU HAVE STANDING YOU GENERATE ATMOSPHERE AND A FEELING OF TOGETHERNESS. IN MUNICH I STOOD UP ALL MATCH WITHOUT ANY STEWARDS TELLING ME TO SIT DOWN. EVEN THE POLICE, WHO RAN UP AND DOWN THE AISLE, DID NOTHING. THIS WAS MUCH BETTER.

HOW TO BRING BACK THE FANS? WE HAVE TO THINK BIGGER!

1 BRING BACK STANDING IN SECTIONS.

2 DROP PRICES TO £10 A GAME.

3 GET RID OF FLAG WAVERS.

4 GET THE ANNOUNCER FROM B MUNICH TO INTRODUCE THE PLAYERS LIKE HE DID WITH OLLY KAHN.

5 MOVE CLUB BACK TO BOLTON TOWN CENTRE WHERE IT'S EASIER FOR EVERYONE TO GET TO THE GROUND AND AND THE PUB BEFORE AND AFTER THE GAME.

As far as I can see it's quite simple.

With big Sam we were going somewhere...Europe was realistic..we were even £4-5 million away from a champions league spot.

Exit Sam who must have been totally frustrated with the lack of investment, and enter the board (for the board read Mr Gartside).

Sammy Lee on the cheap...failure...ok let's move on.

The board signalled to me (and a lot of others) the clubs future ambition and direction, when the names of the potential new managers were discussed (were any Bolton fans genuinely excited by that short list),and finally with the appointment of Mr Megson.

The ambition is now not Europe, nor even top half, our ambition now is at best to remain in the premier league.

The grotesque of spending last season desperatly trying to qualify for europe and now state that it is not a priority makes me ashamed.

Who doubts the revised ambitions of this club when you look at the potential signings linked with the Wanderers in the January window, and who also doubts that our best assets, and the reason that many of us turned up in all weathers, will be disposed of at the same time. Who also really believes that those funds will be re-invested in better players.

The issue is not that we are in the bottom 3 at the moment, the real issue is that the club has signalled it's intent, that the glory days are over, and let's get back to the mediocrity that we put up with for so many years.

Give the supporters a reason to give up their hard earned pay, and they will turn up. At the moment, the board of BWFC do not deserve that support.

Two main reasons I don't go to many home games but DO go to some away games (like many others I know):

1. I just don't like the Reebok - never any singing or atmosphere and like the board, I've no idea how to improve it apart from getting it full every game by giving away thousands of tickets which doesn't make financial sense. I'm just a stay-away-fan now. It's up to the club to entice me back.

2. No entertainers in the team, just grafters. I want to see graft (Super Kev Davies) plus some excitement so where is our new Jay-Jay, Youri, Beardsley, Scott Sellars, Thommo, Curcic etc. Anelka isn't really an entertainer - he just sticks the ball in the net and he'll surely be sold in Jan.

On point 2, when I'd heard that Allardyce had banned our players including Okocha from doing his tricks and fining players for shooting from outside the area that's when I started losing interest and stopped going to games.

Yes, we were successful under big sam, but the last 2 years or so were dull and boring with exactly the same formation each week.

Sammy Lee tried to change it all for the right reasons, but panicked and made too many bad signings and too many changes in a short space of time, but the idea was right... play with flair and passion and the crowds will come back. I certainly would.

So, if the board wanted to get bums on seats, it's easy. Entertain us on the pitch and we'll put up with t'Reebok, prices, traffic jams, poor catering and even the chairman's lies !!

Not many match tickets are £35. Also you don't need to buy a programme.

Football is more expensive now.

There are loads of 'floating voters' in North West football and we could have hoovered them up.

We are not Man Utd et al - we cannot expect our ground to be full no matter what, we need to be leaders in the field of new ideas and marketing, not follow some supposed business model that works for a bunch of clubs who only have to exist to get a full gate. Fer chrisakes there are enough idiots who'd pay to watch the grass grow at OT - OUR CLUB IS NOT LIKE THEM.

I just think the cost and the atmosphere are the big let downs. I can accept the lack of ambition, i mean we're bolton, what do you expect, look at birmingham, preston, sheffield (both clubs), Nottingham, all big clubs by comparrison but we're still riding it out.

PG SA and GM are all easy scapegoats, as are the head steward and so on.
These are people just doing their jobs.

Society has changed since the days when forms of anti-social behaviour was deemed acceptable for the sake of humour and having a good time.

I loved seeing my father and his mates drunk, cracking jokes, on tour across the country, and it felt great being apart of that community that congregated every match day without any boundaries.
This hasn't made me use vulgar language excessively, become an alcoholic or become an hooligan in my adulthood.

If you want to point the finger point it at those lunatic left wing bigots that are so leftwing they're actually rightwing that have passed law after law on issues that may seem to just affect society but actually have had an affect on the football.

Football reflects society, the more laws that are passed the more the people are controlled and right now in this overly liberal state we are told to sit in a certain place, drink in a certain area, eat to your right, and smoke over there all in the name of health and safety.
Oh and you cannot sing that song because it might offend the blogg family over in the corporate seats.

Rules mean discipline, disciplined people walk in a straight line.
This is not entertaining, which is why crowds have dwindled.

So why have Arsenal/Man utd crowds risen?
Because a large proportion of people who go to those games are the type of people who started following football after the taylor report, when sky sports made it more of a circus than an actual social activity.

I've never spoken to people in a cinema, circus and so on, yet at football we would congregate, share moments together, before and after the match we would socialise together.

Now its drive to the reebok, 5min before game we're in, half time go to the toilets that are full of smoke now, after the match come out, in car, home, watch sky sports.

The experience has changed, want people to come back?
Be more dynamic and unique PG, introduce a dedicated section of the stadium thats for adults and likeminded individuals only.
Use the exibition facilities on matchdays for the real fans not the prawn sandwich brigade.
Have live music events after the match where people can congregate on the pitch (with adequate pitch coverings) and beer tents setup on the pitch.

Bringing it back to its roots is whats needed.

Grow some balls PG and be unique.

The over-riding messages from all the above are change and choice. Consider how much the football experience has actually changed over the last 10-15 years. Think of some things that have changed over the same timescale e.g. video hire shops, phone boxes, smoking in public places, free flowing motorways, personal debt, Made in the UK, travel agents, the cost of clothes, airline travel, digital TV (in no particular order).
People today have much greater spending power and will always vote with their feet. Until the football industry wises up to this fact the polarisation of the big few and sod the rest will continue. The coverage of football on pay TV has reached the point now where the tail is wagging the dog. The emphasis on the Champions League and the big 4 has led to the near death of the FA Cup, the League Cup and anything below about tenth in the Premiership. All this has been built up during a period of debt fuelled spending throughout society and the signs are that this is about to come to a very sticky end. The football industry in this country is more and more beholden to subscription audiences in the Far East and could probably bear the loss of Sky, Setanta etc.It is not really any wonder that the whole thing now resembles a circus. It is entirely possible that games could be televised to the rest of the world whilst being played in front of very sparse crowds, the money would continue to roll in and go straight into the players' pockets. This is not so far removed from the situation at present. Where does that leave the fans? Pretty much in the position they are in now where the clubs pay lip service to them but probably despise them at heart. People do not like being taken for granted or treated like mugs. The decline in football attendances will continue until the fans feel valued and that they are getting value.

obvious, we have the best manager in years, he builds up the club, to new heights, premiership, europe, he askd for money because he can see the team is no longer good enough to compete at a higher level, he asks for money to carry on to the next stage, champions league, none avalable, just got 40 mill from sky TV rights etc, nothing doing. Manager leaves, lets get a new manager in without advertising it, Sammy Lee, in house fighting, results poor, bottom of league, 12 players bought for 4 mill, less 2 mill for faye, sack manager, bring in new manager on the cheap again, leicster fans cant believe their good luck at loosing him, note the chants megson for bolton, Bolton fans dont want him, as poll shows, but garside and any one in football, will know hes the man, haha, no ambition at this club, no wonder nobody wants to come here, any decent manager will ask, what money is available for transfers, we all know the answer NONE, bye. dont forget that one, get your season tickets early, the more we sell, the more funds are available for the transfer market, just ask Sam Allardyce how much he got in 8 years think big, spend small, allways been the same, never changed, never will until its to late, listen to the fans.

Jon, do you want me to draw a picture??

Ripped off = Paying for goods or services that arent worth the money you pay for them! Football is no exception.

Now this covers a widespread array of goods services, such as onpitch entertainment value/effort, price of a hotdog, price of a ticket for 90 minutes entertainment and on and on.....

If you bought a cinema ticket and there was lines all across the screen whilst the movie was playing you would complain?

Football shouldn't be exempt from such value for money consumerism.

Write a letter? are you serious? MP's are quite evidently self serving millionaires bent on improving their own stock - fact!

The many comparisons to Football chairmen and MP's are valid ones.

I will be there against Man U...but that wont stop me from voicing my own opinions on the cost of the whole afternoon....and yes i can easily afford it.....

There has been a lot of good logical common sense ideas posted on here regarding ticketing and making the reebok more attractive, but am afraid your ideas are bordering on the ridiculous.

REMEMBER this thread was aimed at the reasons for STAY AWAY FANS....not the price of petrol!

As far as the supporters are concerned, things have not been right for at least the last two seasons. When Sam Allardyce first took over, we struggled to get into the Premiership and then to keep our place there, but they were exciting times. We had never been to Wembley and Cardiff so frequently in present memory! Famous foreign players came into our team - players like Bruno N'Gotty,Fredi Bobic, Youri Djorkaeff and Jay-Jay Okocha we played exciting football and we got into Europe for the first time. However, then it began to turn sour. The comparatively cheap foreign talent dried up, as more clubs became aware of the market and Sam's pitiful budget was spread thinner and thinner. His game plans became more and more defensive and he relied increasingly on keeping clean sheets in the hope that a player could snatch a goal in a breakaway. Supporters will agree to watching this for a while, but not for two seasons. We began to go home after watching a draw or 1-0 win feeling that we had lost. Last January, Phil Gartside(as reported in the BEN)said that £20,000,000 would be available to Big Sam in the summer- when he heard at the end of the season what he actually was being given he left. And who can blame him? If the owner and Board had had a little more courage and foresight, Bolton could have had a place in the Champions League. For a ha'pennyworth of tar they let the ship of success sink and now we are lying on the sea bed of failure and desperation.
Another crucial cause of the decline in attendances is the constant changes in times and days of kick-offs. Time for football matches is 3pm on Saturday. Television is ruining the game and if the powers that be want full stadiums they must start games at the convenience of the supporters not visa-versa.

I am surprised that Commercial Director Gareth Moores cannot see the obvious reasons why our gates are down at the Reebok. I have seen the writing on the wall for some time and I am a mere supporter.Going back to December 2006 and I think we were third from the top and had obviously over achieved despite the history of the financial restraints placed on Allardyce by Gartside and our benefactor ( who incidentally does not plough money into the club but simply guarantees the debt). The January transfer window gave the club the opportunity to show their ambition but once again they blew it. Exit Allardyce and then the cheap option Lee. Then we had loads of cheap signings whilst other clubs somehow found money to invest in top quality players. Then when Lee went we appointed Megson another cheap option. Have you noticed how many times the word `cheap` is used!!Finally, the club have seen that supporters have a choice and all the other negative factors about the Reebok ie. cost, travel, half time drinks, wet and wind Horwich become bigger problems. Add to that the poor performances and I am gobsmacked that at £25+ they think that fans should attend out of sheer blind loyalty. It always amuses me how Gartside and our benefactor are always crying poverty and yet they think the fans should waste their money on utter garbage.

Its easy to say its to dear , but im sure there is alot of people who wouldnot pay £ 10 a ticket any more . Totally agree though tv is killing it . Fans would stay in the pub , rather than pay for a ticket . They should charge £20 extra on season ticket and say every season ticket holder get in free for cup games . It seem like a chore at the moment going to the match , no excitement and thats totally wrong when we have players like anelka and diouf . Im sure if we played 2 strikers and no the constant long ball game people would get more excited . It seems the sky money is more important than entertaining the fans .

Agree totally pal ,they have to do more to make the match experince feel more worth while . A few beer tents round the ground , or even a surporters club in exibition center , where season ticket holders can drink together and sing a few songs .before and after match . Sell that german beer and i would bet my morgage there would be a better atmosphere . Buying beer in the ground that as been poured for a hour and you have to wait half hour ,upsets everybody .

When the stadium first opened, the supporters club asked for a room where the fans could meet before the game and where we could welcome away fans with some hospitality like other clubs do, but we never got it. The Premier Suite sounds a good idea, but most likely it would not be available due to some commercial enterprise taking place. The hotel is open before the match, but season tickets have to be shown to get in and wearing"colours "isn't encouraged.

I think what got most of the older generation (40+) interested in football is no longer there. We wanted to be part of a like minded group who were passionate about our club and wanted to show it so we went in the Burnden paddock. If you just wanted to watch football you went in the seats.

I want to be able to sing and shout my support for the Wanderers without being threatened with eviction or being sneered at by "fellow" fans. Until the powers that be create an area that permits this I'm more likely to be found at away games like Blackburn, Guimaraes or Munich than I am at the Reebok.

It is true about football and TV as the same happens here in Netherlands - but for me going to the Sports Cafe in Leidseplein (Amsterdam) and watch 4 Premiership matches at the same time above the bar plus other football, now that is pure Nirvana and I don't even spend as much as I would when I go to see Bolton when I am in the UK!!!!!!!

It is another case of Rip-off UK and where the Directors can only see pound signs rather than seeing the whole picture and do not appreciate the fan base - hence crashing attendances, and them worrying about their profits and pockets!!!

What inspires fans to buy tickets? , Quality players coming in , a decent manager to believe , decent football to watch and a board who repects the paying fan. Well , we have had none of those things this year and what happens , we drop like a stone in terms of attendences. As for the Boro game , i went because i bought a season ticket. It was truely awfull to watch so i say those staying away are justified in not going. I do think though that our supporters are still very upset and annoyed by the antics of Gartside , in what he said in summer about Big Sam (Best manger we have ever had) , the appointment of Sammy Lee? , WHY not advertise the job properly in summer and the signings have been woefull apart from Andy O'Brien. As for Anelka , Diouf and Jussi , most of us think all 3 will leave in January and that no money will be spent to replace them. As for Mr Moores coming out with , we want regular european football , you must be having a laugh my friend. The lack of quality in the squad is there for all to see. We will never get into Europe again and will be lucky to stay in the Prem.

I believe there are manifold socio-economic indicators which are in close juxtaposition, collectively ensuring the current decline in the fortunes of BWFC. In particular, I would cite the following factors as being of critical relevance here :-

1.) Phil Istine Gartside (PIG) is a cr4p chairman. He has alienated fans with his rather furtive approach to the dissemination of information or misinformation to the club's followers. Moreover he has presided over a draconian fiscal policy which has ensured a decline in the quality of footballers at the club.
2.) The resultant dilution in the quality of football has weakened the appeal of the club's product with a concomitant reduction in consumer interest.
3.) The Reebok Stadium is logistically misplaced in relation to the traditional fan base of Bolton wanderers and suffers severely as a result of congestion and inaccessibility on match days.
4.) The Reebok Stadium itself is devoid of any readily identifible characteristics reminiscent of the much lamented spiritual home of Bolton Wanderers, Burnden Park. Most of the older fan base of the club yearn for the long lost atmosphere of Burnden and would readily sell the reebok tomorrow to return to the old place, terraces, brick bogs, burger van and all.
5.) In relative terms, the club has all the appearances of declining in fortunes. The most optimistic expectations of fans are for survival in the Premiership rather than achieving the right to European competition. This inevitably promotes a sense of worthlessness/ helplessness reflected in the falling gates.
6.) The general perception is that the club has benefitted hugely from investment by Sky television, yet little of the resultant revenue has been utilised in improving the quality of the team. The club cannot "have it's cake and eat" has become a cogent sentiment amongst many fans who choose to view football on Sky rather than attend games with the resultant hassle.
7.) The pies and beer are cr4p and totally over priced.
8.) The average earning fan on £24,000 pa has become hostile towards footballers earning twice that per week in many cases and are no longer prepared to "feed the monster".

Of course, price is a factor. And performances on the pitch. But I think we are now seeing the cumulative effect of 10 years of being treated with contempt, which has ground people down to the extent that they are saying "Enough!".

The way the club regards its "customers" is summed up for me by the stadium advertising. I cannot think of another entertainment industry which has such a disregard for the customer experience, that they spend the entire time trying to distract the customers attention from what they have paid to see. Those of us unfortunate enough to sit in the West Stand this season, now have the dreadful moving LED perimeter advertising, to add to a big screen in the corner which now shows adverts while play is in progress! Perhaps it's my age, but I have to make a conscious effort not to allow myself to be distracted, and keep my attention focussed on the pitch.

It might seem a trivial issue to some, but for me it sums up what they think of us. We're not supporters, to be made to feel important and welcome. We're suckers to be fleeced for as much as they can get.

I can no long call myself a fan, as I can`t be bothered treking how many miles it is to the Reebok. However I served my apprenticeship in the old 2nd,3rd and 4th divisions, and would likew to have a whinge! The Wanderers are punching above their weight with the resources we have got, and have been a credit to the club and town. It has been a great time recently, top half of the Premiership in recent years, UEFA cup -Bayern Munich away ! Unthinkable, coming home from Chester after an awful league cup tie in 198? or was it early 90s ? Who cares, we threw away a 3-0 first leg lead to lose on penalties! I don`t remember us scoring one penalty ? Somebody might correct me !

Anyway my point is, if, (and I sincerely hope we do not) go down, will the move to the Reebok prove to be a disaster?
Championship football in a less than half empty ground?
In my opinion we should never have left the Burnden or town centre area? Funding? Other clubs have stayed at their original site or at least in the town! And we most definitely should not have fiddled about with the clubs badge! Bring back the elephant and castle on a Lancs rose !

Whicko - the point is we are all backing the team to try to survive in the Premiership. The problem is the board.

The only way to get the board to notice and recognise what the fans are saying is by hurting them where it hurts the most - in their pockets. No-shows = less revenue = less profit = less bonuses for the board. Sure it hurts the team, that is a short term pain for the long-term future, and hopefully, success not only of the team but also as Bolton Wanderers as a whole.

Its ironic that in one breath fans will call for us "spending big" and trying to join the big boys, yet in the other, moan that our club is run as a professional business. Big clubs charge big prices. Arsenal, Man Utd, Liverpool, go see what they charge for their season tickets!

Actually ticket prices are not alright. You tell me any other club in the UK that has such a variation of prices which all depends on the game they are playing - how do they work out which is a A+ game and which is a D game????

MOst other clubs in the Premiership have ticket prices lower than ours. Only the so-called BIG clubs have ticket prices around the same as ours. We are NOT a big club and as such our ticket prices should reflect that instead of fleecing fans for mediocre play from the so-called top-players. Why are Wigan's Blackburn's and even City's tickets than ours and why do they get bigger crowds than Bolton, at present?????

Fans are being ripped off and they have had enough. Fans have been lied to and they have had enough. The team is playing very poor at moment (not even up to the players own standards) and the fans have had enough. The board do not give a dman about the true fan but only the corporate suits and sponsors - the fans have had enough.

These are the primary reasons as to why fans are staying away - but there are many many more underlining problems as well.

Most importantly the BOARD has to go!!!

It may not sort out the team but it helps with fans moral and fans support for the team. If they have something on their shirt that they actually believe in then that support does go towards boosting moral both on and off the field. How many true fans actually like the present or the last badge. Many fans would rather see the return of the Coat of Arms!

It would be one step in the right direction in appeasing fans and help to rebuild the reputation of the club which Gartside et al has destroyed.

I see people buying a programme, a beer, a pie at extortinate prices. Hit Gartside where it hurts and the only place he understands - his pocket.

If there was a mass boycott of the club shop, concessions and stuff like that, CONSISTENTLY then things would change. It will take time, granted.

I moved seats after missing a season to near the away end in ESL (from the other end of ESL) and the atmosphere is definately better. Nothing like the old days on Burnden Terrace, but I guess times have changed. Football is increasingly becoming a passive spectator sport rather than an active spectator support. I am not advocating racial abuse or swearing etc., but there is nothing more enjoyable than the crowd en masse singing a little cheeky chant. Even that is few and far between.

The woman behind me where I sits, spends the entire game talking to the geezer next to her about everything other than football, it is like a fecking social club - I often think why bother? Plus, it is irritating hearing about where she is thinking about booking her holidays. You're here for the football love!

Just my 2p worth...I go and come away miserable in most cases, but it is time with my Dad, that I love. I am 31 years old and would miss that more than anything. At least I can be back home in 15 minutes these days.

Football is in the entertainment industry and relies on the paying public to support them even when they are not being entertained that is why they are called fans from the word fanatical. The problem lies with the fans revolting due to several reasons with one common denominator we are fed on garbage from the little fat controller. We are promised every season before the tickets are sold that we are going to buy certain players or calibre of players and this does not materialise and we feel cheated. Gartside has cried wolf once too often with the promises he does not keep he looks at the club from an accountants point of view and cannot be considered to be a football fan as everything is done on the cheep. The appointment of LSL was a huge mistake yet when he had a chance to rectify the problem again he does not look at what is the best option moreover again he does it on the cheap and comes out with a statement saying that anyone in football knows why we have appointed our new manager when in fact no one in football could understand the appointment so making two fundamental errors and thinking that we will support him in any way shape or form as we are fickle. The lad chiphill spud who is a real bolton fan and the amount he spends on the match in comparison to his income shows this and if our owner was half a fan and ploughed half the percentage of his wealth and income as Chiphill does we would have a team of world beaters. My point is the people who run and own our club are in it for the money and not because they are fans of the club just look at steve gibson at Boro he is a fan and has comparable wealth to eddie davies and you see the difference between purely a business man and a fan. The other aspects of our club need addressing inside the Reebok they always use a sledgehammer to crack a nut take smoking the spend money on legal expenses to ensure they have power to evict the smoker rather than accommodate the smoker and opening the doors as at Derby, at half time to allow the smoker to smoke as after all it is not illegal to smoke just in public places. That is just one example and there are many more to detract the paying public entering the Reebok Munich was exceptional in its approach to the fans and they treated us like human beings not animals. The stewards at Bolton are overzealous and should take into account that the paying fan pays their wages and should treat the fan with respect not distain don't forget that we all love the club and want the best and after a week at work they should be allowed to let of steam without the threat of being evicted all in all our club needs to rethink all its policies as it has got things wrong and are not aware of the public's needs they are too far removed in their ivory towers.

The results have improved ever so slightly with a few draws rather than losses and with this the Manager and some fans think that all is now getting better and we are on the up. I have seen most matches this season and have to say that we are the least skillful team in the premiership. We have players who cannot perform well consistently and some weeks play terribly. However they still get picked next week and if they show a slight improvement in that game comments are made that make them sound like superstars. Anelka is supposedly a world class player but when playing for Bolton he rarely looks world class. (probably due to the lack of service and team ambition to play an attacking game). Diouff sometimes looks good but frequently becomes invisible. If all the players had the same 120% effort that Davies gives every week, and play with confidence in attacking the other teams goal, try to stay on their feet rather than fall over every time they are touched and practice passing to each other rather than boot upfield, then the stayaway fans may start to support them again. I cannot see this team moving up the ladder unless there is a change in personnel on the field and more attacking tactics are used. I really hope that I am wrong but its not looking good and the Manager is smiling and throwing bouquets!

Also a couple of David Lee's, maybe a new Sam Allardyce and a couple of Little Joe Smith's. 1 Gudni Bergson and 1 John McGinlay, 1 Hierro and 1 Djorkef (sp.!!)

Exile Gartside to Australia (his preferred location anyway), Megson to Outer Hebrides where he can manage Loch Tarbert. Clear out the dead wood, 6-8 players (depending on the criteria), make Davo the captain....streamlin

grow our team through sperm samples from 20 of the best players to grace football... at least if we grow our squad through this route we'll get a defence and midfield with some b411s!!!!

Problem with this approach is that Gartside will fail to pay the electricity bill (or sign the right contract) at the laboratory where the samples would be growing.....and at some of our players would end up with NO BALLS....NO PASSION....NO SKILLS........

Hang on....this is spooky...

Instead of turning up week in week out with Gartside out banners and protesting at the tw4t ruining our club, alot of just decided to save their time and money! Cant really blame them really, im only going in future when i get hold of a free ticket and theres enough of them about because even season ticket holders are not bothering! There would be more fans turning up if Gartside showed some ambition when appointing a manager, simple as!
Jay, I'm not defending the appointment of either of our last 2 managers, but firstly we cant keep throwing that West Brom statistic at Megson, by that rule Billy Davies, Paul Jewell, Mick McCarthy, Aidy Boothroyd, Bruce Rioch etc etc etc etc are crap managers - not true. So stop being lazy in quoting that, its as if we're saying being a manager outside the top flight doesnt count. Secondly, we had BSA as manager for the first half of 2007 but that didnt exactly having people flocking to the Reebok did it? Crowds have been dropping for years, there are loads of reasons, but who our manager is is probably bottom of the list.
ok mate will stop being lazy quoting that! The forest fans i know, only 3 of them but they slate him bigtime and blame him for wrecking their club! The leicester fans i know, quite alot of them and they where all very very happy to see him leave to say the least, Got west brom promoted and relagated spent quite a few quid doing it which he wont have to spend here. Last point before he was appointed 21-22 thousand crowds now roughly 4000 have decided they wont be going to watch us under Megson, also his targets for January which if turn out to be true are terrible. Still think we should stay up like ive said all along but it will be through our quality players and not Megson in my opinion. If you see Megson taking us forward and qualifying for europe next season if we do stay up then your seeing something most of us are probably missing. Oh and why does Cid still keep playing? Worst player at Bolton for years, doesnt speak a word of english and a couple of our own defenders dont even know why he gets a game!

I think that it is about time that the BN started printing all of the posts on here so that general populas of BN readers can see what is going on. I have at least six mates who are all Bolton Fans and dont even know that this forum exists, so only see the posts that are cherry picked so as not to upset BWFC. Obviously you cant print any posts that are litigous, offensive or written by Jon. Please Bolton News start printing the truth !

THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE !!!!

The answer is to reduce ticket prices, the prices are ridiculous. Bring them down to £15 for adults and £10 for kids and we'll get larger gates than at current.
Cant agree. For one, if it was £15 a head we may get a few hundred more each game but no more than that (as shown by the fact that we get lower crowds for Cat C and Cup games than we do for Cat B and above). Secondly, if you are a family of 2 adults and 2 kids, by your prices that would cost £50 for the family. Or £950 a season. Which is about £100 more than a family season ticket in the North Stand. People have given loads of examples of why they no longer go and the evidence suggests price is way down the list, as I said yesterday an adult and child could have attended 5 matches each for less than £100 recently and still nobody bothered.

help me out here Jon..

I don't go as much as I used to because of the price.

Having watched the Wanderers in all 4 divisions, might I suggest that I am neither a glory hunter or 'johnny-come-lately'
.

Is my opinion not valid because you simply disagree with it, or are you gartsides PA under instruction to break up the discussion on the forum.

I repeat - I DON'T GO AS MUCH BECAUSE OF THE PRICES.

Look at who we have played - compared to they way we have performed. DOes the avergae joe public want to see a mediocre performance against another near the bottom team. Price no matter what, for those games does not come into the equation as the games themselves would be very poor and who want's to waste money in seeing a poor game? Would you want to waste money in seeing a poor concert performance by a band that are heading out of the charts for good due to poor music rather than splitting up? - no difference between the two - ecomonics of performance!!!

Get into Europe twice cant even get into the League stage of the UEFA cup - Dead good team Grocklen. You'll be sha66ed when Frank Sinatra gets sent down in Thailand. I fear that the end of City is nigh. Once your chairman is arrested and imprisoned who is going to give you the money. The stadium does not belong to City but belongs to Manchester City Council!!!! There will be no money for wages or new players - an even more dire situation than the Reds. No Bank or finance company will want to touch you after being fooled by a fraudster. Once City have gone into administartion isn't that an automatic 15point deduction - then who will be near the bottom.

I agree the Premiership does need a cull of north west teams such as Wigan and City and bring in more real decent proper footballing teams such as Leeds and FC United of Manchester

Wake up and smell the coffee City are on more borrowed time than what Bolton will ever be (although no-one likes our board, myself included, at least we have real CLEAN money!!!)
