SAM Allardyce has left Newcastle United.

The former Wanderers boss, who quit the Reebok on April 30 last year, lasted less than eight months and 24 games at St James' Park.

He leaves with Newcastle 11th in the Premier League with 26 points from 21 games. In his spell there he had eight wins, six draws and 10 defeats.

Newcastle issued an official statement confirming that Allardyce had left the club "by mutual agreement".

Can't understand anyone being glad Sam's been sacked. He will always be a true legend at Bolton- so what, he took Faye and a couple of backroom staff. All new managers poach staff from their old clubs.

Personally, I wish him all the best.

Its a shame that he will have to manage on several million pounds severance pay. Its tough at the top !!!!!

On a more serious note, you have to say that Newcastle United are a complete joke. I believe he would have done well given a couple of years. The problems at Newcastle are deep and could not be sorted in a few months. Players with too much power and fans with no patience that only want Shearer.

Anyway Sam can now sit back and count his payoff. Sometimes better to be a big fish in a little pond.

Where was you when Sam said he needed a rest from football and was going to have a long vacation, then 11 days later he popped up like a blooming flower in a spring meadow as the Newcastle manager.

Then had the audacity to strip the club of it's backroom staff, not to mention poach our best defender/midfield player off us.

Perhaps you have been away a long time, much longer than what Sam was on vacation anyway.

Andy L, Rugby says...

A shame. He served us well and is deserving of our continuous and unswerving gratitude, whatever we may think about his departure.

We can now add Big Sam to the lengthening list of players, staff and managers who have peaked and reached their highest value at Bolton before seemingly outreaching themselves. It's great credit to BWFC and our club is the best: that's the way we might look at it.Beware, Nicolas Anelka..you are on this path!

Hubris and Nemesis---- It's a classical cycle of arrogance, and a tipping point which inevitably brings savage retribution.

Newcastle for the Championship! Big Sam to er..Notts County?

Den, you are a pathetic little man. We were bottom of Div 1 when he took over. Great years in Prem, Cup Final at Cardiff, 2 Euro campaigns.

Youre obviously such a brave bloke, no doubt you would back up your bung claims in court? Nothing proved as yet, moron.

He left because he was sick of pulling rabbits out of hats, while never being given the proper financial support he deserved.

As someone posted on here last week, it is,nt taking us long to completely unravel all BSA built up here over the last 8 years , so its a bit unfair to now start slagging him off. 2 European campaigns would have been beyond our wildest dreams 8 years ago.

I just find it ironic that he left us for a "bigger" club and to "win trophies" .Anyone could have told him that he would be no nearer winning trophies at Newcastle than if he had stayed with us.

Also with Newcastles recent track record with managers it was obvious he would be given no time.

At least he can now have the break from football he promised us he was taking when he left last April. I hope all the backroom staff who broke their contracts with us to join him also get sacked.

WE should now try to get Faye back here asap.

good opening line on yr post, real quality.
I have my views and conclusion and you have yours, to which you are fully entitled.

My own view of why he left was probably something to do with Gartsides wife?? and the lure of a so called bigger club with potts of money (to which he didnt exploit very well)

Some of the sentiment on this site is extremely childish. All the same names pointing the finger in any direction, having a good old moan. If the Angel Gabriel was a former Bolton Manager, they would still find something to b**ch about. The fact is, Big Sam put us back on the map. Like him or loathe him, it has to be the wrong decision.

Oh Julie, I don't actually care whether people agree with me or not, but I'm not surprised in the slightest to see that you are name calling again. You think I'm small minded, hey, that's your right to have an opinion. I have an opinion of you too, but that shall remain in my thoughts as I don't have to constantly attack people to feel good about myself.

I too enjoyed the Sam Allardyce era, he did more for the club than any other manager in my lifetime. My problem (and in my humble opinion, is that of others too) is the way he left the club. He stitched us up, lied to us and then stole some (can't comment on the exact percentage, but I'm sure you will tell me later) of our backroom staff. You might not have a problem being lied to by him, but I do. You might choose to forget the way he left, I haven't. I also feel that when he was our manager, you could 'ignore' some of his arrogance and constant attention seeking in the press, for instance always saying how he should be the next England manager. Unfortunately, when he isn't our manager, his arrogance got slightly annoying. Another reason I turned to dislike him.

I have my own (obviously small minded) opinion, so do you. We will probably rarely agree, but get over it.

Julie I have stated numerous times on this forum what a great time I have had while Sam was manager.

Now for the ugly stuff

The chap was ruthless and dishonest towards all Bolton Wanderers staff and supporters even to the extent that he said he wanted a break from football, then 11 days later was like a spring chicken on cocaine saying he was proud to be the Newcastle manager, a bit like Winston Churchill saying he was on the front line for Germany against the English in WW2, I cannot stand people who are dishonest when I have believed in them for 8/9 years .....

BSA is a leader not a manager
With the "ginger tom" we might stay in the premiership, he might manage to get some average playersbut the best we can hope for is a life of survival.
We are going to be punching our weight with the like of Sheffield, Wolves, Preston and other sized similar towns.

With BSA back he will LEAD.
lead us to mid- table security,
lead us to the Wembly way
lead us to get decent players
lead us to punch above our weight.
I say agaain BIG SAM FOR DIRECTOR OF FOOTBALL
Get behind it folks before it is too late

Saints alive Julie, there are far too many supporters/mates who I treat as normal working class who know all about their football ethics who are of the same opinion as myself, the point of telling lies 30 times a day does not ring true with me, in fact after my family football is number one with me, not trying to change your mind here but to change your outlook on people who are not what they seem.

Thanks for that superb analysis Andy L, it just shows that some of us manage to ride above the short sighted and bigoted fools who call themselves Wanderers. 1 year ago BSA wanted just 1 other defender to help us on our way. Gutless Gartside and the Owner Who Has Always To Be Thanked decided that BSA's judgement was not to be trusted and said NO!
The rest is a tangled mess with 2 clubs in total disaray. I now know what I have always known, that MY club know the COST of everything and the VALUE of nothing. Thanks for the last 8 years BSA, perhaps we can now return to true mediocrity and see off the presents owners as we have seen off the rest who took us all for a ride (and our cash)

Hard to see what is left for Sam now. He certainly won`t get another big job, and he always reckoned he would retire at 55 anyway, so, assuming he doesn`t fancy moving down a division or two, I would have thought that`s it, he certainly can`t need the money.

Wonder if he now regrets what happened? Bolton fans wouldn`t have turned on him, he was one of us and had a job for life.

What would have happened this season had he still been here I wonder, especially seeing we had been in freefall since last new year.

Of course the truth is that everyone's opinion is justified to some extent, because nothing is ever as cut and dried or black and white as we might want to believe for the chance of enjoying a rattling good argument with each other.
Sam's years gave us unprecedented progress and success way beyond realistic expectations, but the manner of his departure appeared undignified and Judas-like. We'll never know if he could have taken us to the next level and champions league football.... and that's the thing I regret, for we will never have the chance again.
Let's hope we follow Harry Rednapp's example and refuse to do business re Anelka until we have cast-iron quality to replace him already in place.

You seem to be happy with the notion that as long as you can slag every one else off to demonstrate just how clever you are, then it doesn't matter what happens at BWFC. In the end we are a small club with small ambition, so we may as well all get used to it again - like we did in the did in the dark days of Div 3 + 4 same as Chesterfield and Huddersfield.

All those Scottish Prem matches called off? Why? Our troops abroad, do they refuse to fight for a few days if a comrade dies? It has gone too far for me. If a true Bolton legend passed away, I would not be bothered if Scottish clubs ignored it. Maybe I am wrong on this.

Just to digress- wonder how Eric is feeling in his self imposed exile? Fingers hovering over keyboard longing to make some acid comment about BSA.

Fully agree personally I would prefer to see us in the situation we were in when he joined rather than the one we are in now.
The position we are in is down to his actions once he decided he could no longer be bothered, which was about last January, we fell from being 15 points clear in 5th to only just finishing in UEFA places because Pompey had a good goal wrongly disallowed. As bad as LSL was, he can't carry the can for that, Lardarse was in charge throughout all that relegation form. It only happened because he had stopped caring because he had eyes on the City job, then the barcode one and did not have the b@lls to walk when he no longer wanted to be here.

I can't comment on Jimmy Armfield leaving the club as I'm too young(!), but the difference with Bruce Rioch is that he didn't 'leave for a break from football'. He was completely honest, was offered a job at a big club and most fans didn't have a bad word to say about him. Allardyce was devious about the whole episode.

Thats why a number of Bolton fans are annoyed about Sam leaving.

Aaaah BSA/FSA - On the plus side the best manager we've ever and are ever likely to have. I refuse to believe that the likes of Youri or Jay-Jay would've ever played in a white shirt but for his persuasive skills. And yet it has to be said, a very difficult man to warm to, clearly duplicitous and an egomaniac, rent-a-gob. A fan of low-risk, low-entertainment football, a man who took Jay-Jay and turned him into a long throw expert! I still don't want to comment on his departure from Bolton cause I don't think we really know what happened, do we? Of course it looked bad when he signed for Newcastle the week after and when he started poking around for our staff and Faye, he didn't make any friends. Ultimately, I'll remember him as the man who took my team to heights that I would never have imagined. I don't think that Newcastle will prosper from this and personally I'd love to see Shearer fall flat on his smug face after having cast a massive shadow on Gullit, Robson and now Allardyce. As for a reunion, I do hope not, it never works as well second time around - look at The Spice Girls! He won't be out of a job for long though, middling clubs of similar level to us will be queueing up for him...

He knew he was going then as Phil "Fat Wallet" Gartside refused to give him the cash for a final push for 4th spot , we signed David Thompson... Lack of ambition caused the departure for a manager who did more for us in 8 years then anyone in the last 50. I was gutted he left us because we were secure in the knowledge that he would work his magic. BWFC as not been the same since , i would have him back tommorrow. I remember the good times , not the bad , he is greatly missed and we have gone pear shaped since he went. Newcastle is a graveyard for managers , he was as Little Sam was , on an hiding to nothing , the only saving grace is he will have left Newcastle with 9 million in pay off money. So we can't worry too much! . I will however wish him all the best for the future , people have very short memories for an adopted Boltonian.

I hate Gartside and I hate Allardyce, perhaps just about in even measure. Thats why I have packed it in this season. Two egotists playing with the club I love. Too many people are obsessed with what Allardyce did for the club. As if he did it out of the good of his own heart. Everything he did , he did for his own ends. He ripped us off, big style and lied when he went to Newcastle. Now he has got what he deserves. The bum's rush. He did'nt only have his own snout in the Reebok trough, he also made sure his 'litle boy' got his whack too. Craig Allardyce had a professional footballers contract. Guess where? Blackpool, when his dad was manager. When Sam was sacked from that job, Craig was quickly fired off too. He then turned up as an agent at his daddy's club, earning commission for the signature of a whole host of players not good enough for the first team, but signed on the say-so of his dad. The Allardyce dynasty stinks. And I have not even started to rant about Gartslime yet....

I think there is a lot more behind the scenes then anyone is letting on. Firstly I feel that Garside has not been investigated enough after the panorama programme - remember BSA was actually cleared but nothing said of Gartside. Also there are rumours of a big rift between Gartside and the Allardyce families - another bearing on what might have happened!!!

On the pitch, yes BSA was faultering but why - no money being given to him by the board - how much did we actually spend last January, how much did BSA want to take the club to the next level?

BSA was/is Bolton Wanderers whereas Gartside is out for as much money as possible. BSA knew the club, knew his players and most importantly knew his fans - something that up to this day Gartside knows nothing about (apart from getting a good return so that the club can be sold!!!)

BUt this is all speculation - we know BSA left under a cloud but what cloud and in which direction. I wish him all the best now and do hopefully wish that he would come back to Bolton as Director of Football (and have the final say in team selection and signing players)!

Yes, he worked wonders at bolton and I don't think us fans should forget that at all!

He brought us up into the premier league and with the hard work all the backroom staff, the players and the manager put in to establish Bolton as a top flight team does not deserve to go uncredited.

I'm sure he would've done a good job if he was given time but with the amount of money riding on the positions in the league (due to tv rights), I think the clubs are getting a little too greedy and making harsh decisions.

Sam - you will always be a legend in my eyes, all the best and hopefully you will bring the same success to another club as you did with bolton.

Yes you did leave Bolton without our blessing but for all the hard work you put into the club - I for one forgive you!

I feel all fans should feel the same. Now as Gary has taken over, I'm sure Gary will make his mark on the club as I've been very impressed with how he has dealt with the problems at the club.

Especially with practically no backroom staff and low morale amongst the players, Gary has managed to build something solid and once again we have a team that can be confident of beating any team in the premier league.

Andy W, Cumbria says...
8:40am Thu 10 Jan 08

BSA knows the fans does he?

Anyone who met him would know that he held Bolton fans in disdain. It was he, don't forget, who started to criticise the fans a few years ago, not Phil Gartside. What people forget is that the board created the right conditions and environment for Sam to work well in. Probably no other board in the country would have done that. The last 8 years was a team effort: board, manager, coaches, fans, staff and players. Sam thought he could do it on his own, away from the support that he got from Gartside and the rest. He was wrong.

He won't get a chance at another 'big' job. I'd guess he'll be at a Championship club pretty soon. Does he have it in him to build a second club?

In 6 years under his reign in The Premier League we finished 16th, 17th, 8th, 6th, 7th and 8th. Given his resources this was and always will be, a miracle. Newcastle have made a big error of judgement in dismissing him but then again is anyone surprised at that. Personally I would love to see him back at The Reebok as our Manager but it won't happen. So good luck Sam for the future - I'm sure there will be numerous offers of work pouring in very soon. If Roy Keane calls it a day at Sunderland, Niall Quinn is known to be a big admirer of Sam.

To the guy who referred to Margaret Thatcher in such insulting tones, I believe a nation gets the leadership it deserves - we've accordingly got Gordon Brown, a man not fit to grace any political top table, in my opinion. Maybe there is an analogy here with Bolton Wanderers in that we now also have the leadership that some of our less intelligent supporters deserve.

Also the analogy regarding Gordon Brown, well I can choose which party I support but I will always support BWFC, a massive difference there I feel in your summing up of things.

Nice; the forums getting all Westminster. Next up the wall in Palestine as a metaphor for the authorities protectionism of big four clubs.

Seriously though, I find myself in two minds about BSA. On the one hand we've had some cracking times in recent years and it may be a long time before superstars like Youri and Hierro are gracing Horwich Retail Park again. On the other he let himself get carried away with England talk, Big Four ambitions, foreign managers and of course the BBC before completely losing focus on Bolton. No question whatever happened with the board this time last year played a big part but his treatment of us in the final days was a bit shoddy.

Hope he does well wherever he goes next but hopefully he will have learnt when to show a bit of humility in future.

B.S.A. Brought unparalleled success to the club, and admittedly that was undoubtedly a team effort from the top down. But at B.W.F.C. Sam assembled a squad of players who looked up to him and respected him and played their hearts out. Towards the end there was a clear breakdown in relations between the board and the management and this began to have an effect on results on the pitch. We can only surmise what the reason for the breakdown was, but it was very clear in the end that Gartsides attitude to B.S.A. was acerbic and may well have been the reason for Sam's hasty departure. Sam arrived at Newcastle under a cloud of great expectation and inherited a squad of players, many of them stars who looked down on him with suspicion and fans expecting instant success and when it did'nt come screemed for his head. There was a change of ownership and in the end their impatience along with that of the fans and no doubt the influence of the players proved to be his downfall. So if there is a big payoff, which I'm sure won't exceed the unexpired value of his contract. Let's not deny him that and wish him well for the future.

I can not believe the reaction on this site where would we have been without big Sam lets face facts we would not be in the premiership on a regular basis. He took us from a yo yo club into a serious premiership outfit which every team feared to play, he gave us 8 years which is more than enough for the fans to appreciate what he has done for our club on a shoestring compared to all the other premiership clubs. How can the Moran's who vent venom towards him have any footballing knowledge we are a team who will never spend big and always try to achieve the impossible which is what Big Sam achieved look at the money which has been spent trying to buy success and failing miserably. Look at the two manager we have replaced him with and the squad which has been diluted after his departure with second rate players coming to our club and the players we have been linked with does not look any better. Under big SAM we have had European and world cup winners, players who have played at the top level all stating that he was the best managers they had worked under yet instead of immortalising him we vindictively seek to cast hatred against him. Well to all those fans you reap what you sow and you will realise when you mature and the club has failed to grow what a great manager he was for our club. The demise of Big Sam does not fill me with venom it just shows how naive the Newcastle public and board are and they will not progress with the current attitude. I hope that the Big Man has a little time off to reflect on the decisions he has made and comes back to Bolton his spiritual home in some capacity and the fans alike give him the standing ovation he richly deserves for the good he has brought to our club.

Oh so cynical Andy the odds of Allardyce working for the BBC are about the same as Real Madrid shortlisting him, as he has not spoken to them since the Panorama bung program. I personally wish him well and can understand fully why he left. The backroom staff and Faye business were unsavoury but Gartside hardly covered himself in glory during this period either. I personally will always have mixed feelings about Sam Allardyce. Yes he brought some success to the club. Some people will feel that he got the club as far as it could go. I feel he was a good manager but not a great one. I feel other managers could have done better.

I was disappointed at the way he left, but it's the alleged scandel over transfer money that will always remain in my mind. He said he was going to sue the BBC, but now seems to have dropped it. This one episode is why we can never hjave him back, because of the shame it brought on the club. I'm afraid that after I had seen those allegations last Christmas I wouldn't have given Mr Allardyce any money to spend either. Then ther were the allegations about his son. It was Sam himself that insisted that his son be part of his set up, this despite Phil Gartside telling him that it was a bad idea. This is what I suspect the fall out was over and questioned the integrity of the club. As for Newcastle, for me Big club 3rd Division supporters. They won't acheive unless they stick with there manager for more than two years.

I'm sure Allardyce will be back in football somewhere, whether it be Wolves or maybe Leeds. Newcastle was a poor choice. He should have waited for a better opportunity.

It is all very well saying lets sign defoe, saviola etc. they would not give Bolton a second look-in because we are a premiership side in the North of England who lack ambition and have a manager with no pedigree in charge. In Sam we a persuader in charge who would bridge the gap between us and the also rans and would not stop until he got his man under a tight financial restraint. we are on a downward spiral of our roller coaster ride of being a Bolton fan and lets hope the upturn is around the corner.

I agree Sam did bring unparalleled success, and for that I thank him.

I am sure the players did look upto him and respect him and played their hearts out for him but from January 2007 onwards Sam lost interest, for reasons qouted earlier by Nik. London....." he let himself get carried away with England talk, Big Four ambitions, foreign managers and of course the BBC before completely losing focus on Bolton" and in so doing possibly lost the respect of the players and that willingness to play their hearts out, and that would explain our poor run of form towards the end of the season. the players were the same players, the manager was the same manager, unfortunately the manager didn't have the same attitude to the job and that transferred to the players.

That, more than the actions of the board or any breakdown in communication was to blame.

So I reitterate thanks for the memories that went before January 2007, but have no sympathy for what's happened to him at Newcastle.

What a load of utter nonsense on this forum today. Big Sam worked miracles at Bwfc. So did Jimmy Armfield, Ian Greaves, Phil Neal and Bruce Rioch before him. Yes I know we were not in the Premier League, but everything is relative. Without at least two of those former managers there would have been no Bwfc for Big Sam to take on to further levels.

I have been privileged to watch mercurial players under all those managers. Lofthouse, Lee, Hill, McGinlay, Walker, Gudjohnsen, Jenson and yes, Okocha, Hierro, Yuri and Anelka.

Unfortunately, when Anelka leaves this week, followed by Jussi and Diouf at the end of the season, we shall be left with journeymen footballers. You have seen the last of big name signings for some considerable time.

You can criticise the directors as much as you want. The plain truth is they all lost considerable amounts of money, sums far in excess of us small shareholders, when the shares collapsed.

Megson may not be the ideal manager, but that's what we have. So let us all get behind the team and put the spectre of relegation behind us asap.

I thank Sam for the job he did for us and I believe he did a great job with very little resources. As for how he left, well some people need to get real. He looked after himself like 99% of premiership footballers do. When Newcastle came knocking he would have been stupid to say no. We have reached our potential in the top 10 and without a multi-billionaire putting in 30 million every year this is our limit. He could have been more honest at the end, but that's business.

He left us for a big club with money to spend. They already had Martins, Milner and Owen. He spent nearly 30 million and got Viduka for nowt. I believe that Sam also reached his potential with us. If he spent that money at Bolton and brought in Joey Barton and Alan Smith for almost 12 million, then i think a number of Bolton fans would have been shouting "you don't know what you're doing".

He was a good manager for a club like ours and bringing in Nic was brilliant. But talk of England went to his head and he thought he was better than he actually was. Good luck to him, but lets give Ginger a chance. If he gets money and wastes it then shout for Sam to come back.

Birch - an insider told me last week that there were rumblings of Allardyce coming back as chairman.
He didn't elaborate on it or say where it had come from but he has enlightened me with some titbits over the years – some of which have happened (Anelka signing for us ) and some haven’t (Diouf to Inter Milan last summer).

I am not sure what to think of that if it does come about, weather it would be good or bad, what do you think?

anything is better than Gartside, he is like a big fat bad guy of doctor who!

i have been circa to some insider info recently, Gavin McCann told my mate the day lsl got sacked that Peter reid was the man, we all went bananas backing him at the bookies, he never even got a mention!

Well, if Sam came back as chairman then you effectively have 2 managers - not a good remedy usually.
It's a funny one.

Another rumour from a different source was that Shearer has been the biggest sh1t stirrer at Newcastle and made life difficult for Sam and anyone else he didn’t take a liking to.
OH but this can’t be true as he was snapped holidaying in Barbados so of course
nothing
is to do with him, honest....

Davie of Leigh....apology re Margaret Thatcher accepted - thanks. It's just that I always thought when she was in charge there was someone steering the ship. I agree though that she did make mistakes and growing distant from the moderates in her party proved fatal.

Birch of Chorley.... the fat guy in Doctor Who (aka Peter Kay) was known as the Absorbaloff!

CORRECT
No. Eddie Davies will not have paid for Anelka. The club bankers paid but it is probable that ED guaranteed the additional debt. In any case it came out of the company that he owns so when push comes to shove there is not much difference.

BSA did a great job but there was something wrong in his last year and something wrong with the way he left. It seems to me Gartside did all he could for as long he could.
By the way if Eddie Davies had not put up £3.5 million for the naming rights of the academy the club's last balance sheet would have shown an insolvent position. Why? Because the club kept investing more in players and player salaries etc. Eddie Davis(fan as I think he is) has made it clear he is not going to pour money down a bottomless pit to keep some folk up Daubhil happy.

he had a job for life with us but he chased the almighty £££ and was found out for the one-trick pony he is i hope he ends up at Wolves or somewhere like that i'll never forget what he did, but I cannot forgive how he left. right, so we've got Allardyce and McClaren out, I think we should start off on Benitez next! ps - Julie Moores - grow up you baby.
he was not chasing the pounds - he was basically hounded out by a big massive argument with Fat Phil Gartslime. Possibly to the effect that BSA had found out that Fat Phil had done some dubious deals (remember BSA was cleared and yet there was no mention, whatsoever, about Fat Phil Gartslime!!!!).

If relations like that break down what is the most sensible thing to do - move on as quickly as possible - and that is what BSA did. Why stay somewhere where he will not be treated correctly by the chairman and where the chairman will block any purchase from thereonin!!!

I feel sorry for BSA for they way he has been treated by the board of Bolton and they way the Newcastle fans did not give hime time (remember he did not have instant success at Bolton - but we gave him time as we could see what he was trying to do - unlike LSL and some of the ideas from the present manager!).

If anything was to happen to help Bolton out of it current mire it should be......

Fat Phil Gartslime OUT
Eddie "I'm not a Utd fan - Honest, guv" Davies OUT
Warburton OUT
Duckworth OUT
BSA to be made Director of Football
Megson Head team 1 coach

with all on-pitch decisions to be made by both Sam and Gary!
