WANDERERS have lost out to Wolves in the race to sign Kevin Doyle.
The Republic of Ireland international has signed a four-year contract at Mollineux, becoming the club's most expensive player at £6.5million.
Gary Megson registered an interest in the 25-year-old as early as a fortnight ago but the Whites did not follow up with an official offer.
Wolves and Fulham are believed to be the only two clubs who met the release clause in the striker's contract, however, Everton, Sunderland and Aston Villa were all linked with a move at one time or another.
Doyle's fee eclipses the £3m Wolves paid for Ade Akinbiyi a decade ago - and leaves Megson investigating other striking options.
Leroy Lita, who is available on a free transfer after leaving Reading, is not considered to be on Wanderers' shopping list.
