SEAN Davis wants to see Jack Wilshere back at the Reebok – even if it puts his own position in jeopardy.
The midfielder is a huge fan of the Arsenal teenager who spent the second half of last season with Wanderers.
Owen Coyle is desperate to bring Wilshere back to the club on a season-long loan deal – and the manager has Davis’s full backing.
“The more quality in the squad the better,” he said. “If you have a lot of players competing and fighting for their places then it will make for a better season for Bolton Wanderers.
“Jack is a very good prospect. He is still young and has a lot to offer, but if he carries on progressing then he is definitely going to be a star for the future.
“He looks like he could get a few caps for England because he has got a good head on his young shoulders.”
Davis even reckons the pair would complement each other perfectly, if they played together in the centre of the park.
The 30-year-old added: “He is more of an attacking dribbler, who goes past players. I’m more of a sitter, who sits in front of the back-four. I don’t really compare myself to anyone really.”
Davis, meanwhile, continues his long road to recovery after a serious knee injury ruled him out for most of last season.
The former Portsmouth man was in only his fourth game as a Bolton player when he ruptured his cartilage against Liverpool in August.
After a gruelling 10-month rehabilitation programme, in which he was strapped to a machine for up to eight hours a day to keep his knee joint moving, he is now facing a race to be fit for the start of the new Premier League campaign.
“I just want to be as fit as possible and I’m not getting carried away,” said Davis, who will jet off with the rest squad on Monday for Bolton’s pre-season trip to America. “Hopefully I can get a few games under my belt in the pre-season and see where that takes me.
“It’s been hard work with long sessions and I’m just happy to get through it.
“I’ve had almost a year out so I’m going to be feeling some aches and pains, but the knee seems to be holding up well which is important. I just want to get through pre-season fully fit and raring to go.”
