Snow puts paid to Leigh Genesis promotion clash with Curzon Ashton

LEIGH Genesis' eagerly awaited fixture against promotion rivals Curzon Ashton has been postponed after the Hurst Cross pitch failed an inspection earlier this morning.

In similar circumstances to last weekend's postponed fixture against Rossendale United, the UniBond League have allowed clubs to carry out inspections on the Friday prior to a Saturday game as opposed to the usual practice of waiting until match day.

With the venue for the game, Ashton United's Hurst Cross ground, still under several inches of snow, it did not take long for a decision to be made and the game to be postponed.

It marks the sixth game in succession that Garry Flitcroft's side have seen postponed since defeating AFC Fylde 4-1 at the Leigh Sports Village Stadium on December 19.

A new date for the Curzon game will be announced in due course.

Weather permitting, Leigh's next scheduled game is at Colne on Tuesday, kick off 7.45pm, in a Lancashire FA Co-Operative Challenge Trophy quarter final tie that has already been postponed on two occasions in recent weeks.
