LEIGH Centurions will welcome Batley Bulldogs in the preliminary semi-final on Sunday after Featherstone Rovers progressed in the Kingstone Press Championship Qualifying play-offs at their expense.
Rovers, on course for a fourth consecutive Championship Grand Final, ran in seven tries as Leigh replied through Ryan Brierley and Michael Ostick doubles and a Gregg McNally score.
Centurions found themselves 28-4 down following the break at the Big Fellas Stadium after Will Sharp twice went over, along with Greg Worthington and Tommy Saxton.
Brierley made the scoresheet after McNally and Tommy Goulden combined before Leigh threatened to spark a second half revival.
Worthington found Brierley to sprint clear for his brace then Bob Beswick’s kick was pounced on by hooker Ostick, Martyn Ridyard goaled to reduce the deficit further.
Rovers replied through another Saxton effort, before substitute Sean Penkywicz presented Ostick with his second, Ridyard again adding the extras.
McNally crossed in the corner to give Centurions hope of a dramatic turnaround, but the hosts – awarded the League Leaders’ trophy after the game – rounded off their win with an Andy Bostock try.
