JAMIE Acton has signed a two-year full-time playing contract that will keep him at Leigh Centurions until the end of the 2016 season.

The 22-year-old prop forward has made a big impression at Leigh Sports Village this year and become a fans’ favourite.

His new contract comes into effect from 1 December 2014.

London born Acton first played Rugby League with Hemel Stags as a 16-year-old having initially played rugby union. He moved to Wigan Warriors and was a regular in their Under-20s Academy side in 2011 and has also represented England and BARLA at Under-18s level.

Acton made his senior debut as a dual registered player with South Wales Scorpions in 2012 and later that season played for Oldham. In 2013 he was a regular in the Workington Town side, making 23 appearances before joining Leigh in September 2013.

Commenting on Acton’s signing, Centurions Head Coach Paul Rowley said: “I’m delighted to have secured Jamie’s signature on an extended contract. He is something of a late developer into Rugby League and has some rough edges but we spotted his raw potential playing against us for Workington last year and were keen to get him on board.

“Jamie has played second row and centre earlier in his career and though he is now a very powerful front row forward he is also very mobile with good core skills. He is very keen to learn and has quickly fitted into the environment at Leigh. Being a full-time player can only enhance his career and I feel sure he will take the opportunity with both hands.”

Centurions Head of Rugby Derek Beaumont said: “Jamie is tough and uncompromising on the field and has made a big impact already during his time at the Club. I believe that he can develop his game further, especially in a full-time environment and being surrounded by quality players and coaching staff.

“Off the field Jamie is a gentle giant, softly spoken and a great family man. He is also studying for a degree. He has a great rapport with the supporters who have taken him to their hearts and is very humble and respectful person who fits easily into our environment."
