Leigh East 35 Askam 22

LEIGH East entertained Askam in a game with the old clich←, a game of two halves.

The hosts raced into a half time lead of 26-0 but the Cumbrianメs came back to within six points before east sealed the game with a drop goal and a late try.

It was Ben Horan who opened the scoring on six minutes.

Adam Holland goaled the make the score line 6-0 and extended the lead on 11 minutes through Lee Rowley, again converted by Holland, 12-0.

It took till the 28th minute for more points to be scored after possession was turned over time and time again in slippery conditions but Gavin Hunter spied his chance to go over but East were white hot and went over twice more just before half time when Adam Holland and Mark Cahill went over, both goaled by Holland to make the half time score 26-0.

The second half was time for the visitors to start their fight-back running down the hill.

Tom Hopkins went over on 43 minutes, converted by Kristian Tyson but East managed to add a further two points from right in front of the posts from a penalty.

Michael Wilson brought the score back to 28-10 on 53 minutes and when Gary Bolton went over for Askam in the 60th minute, converted by Tyson the game was shot wide open, 28-16.

The visitors gave themselves a massive lifeline on 66 minutes when Lee Norman brought the scores to within eight points and after a conversion from Tyson they were back within one score from snatching a draw.

The final 10 minutes saw the pendulum swing between both sides with chances going begging but Adam Holland slotted over a drop goal to ease the tension and then was quickest to the ball after a neat kick from Safraz Jama to take the valuable two points.

Leigh East u18 34 Thatto Heath Crusaders 30

EAST under 18s got back to winning ways with a 34-30 win against Thatto Heath.

The lead changed hands on several occasions but with Chris Dootson's late try sealed the game for the hosts.

Jack Hansen and Pat Rainford stood out for East again.

Dalton 28 Leigh East u16 18

LEIGH East travelled to North West Counties Cup finalists Dalton and although ending up losing showed good spirit.

The game started with East going into a 10-0 lead only to be hauled back after injuries to fullback Danny Melling and centre Ross Webster.

The game ended with a 28-18 loss.

Tries from Jordan Hellum, Ross Webster, Ryan Gray and Jordan Reynard with a goal from Josh Woods.

We would like to wish Danny Melling well and hope he makes a speedy recovery.

Langworthy Reds 26 Leigh East u15 32

EAST travelled to Langworthy to keep the winning league run to six out of six and being 22-0 down at half time brought out the fighting character in the team scoring six second-half tries to take the win.

Try scorers were Danny Surridge, two, Robert Smith, Brad Whelan, Corey Hamer and Dale Whitworth with Brad Whelan kicking four goals.

Leigh East u13 20 Widnes St Maries 22

THE under 13s with a much-improved performance, led until the last five minutes only to be pipped at the death 22-20 against St Maries.

East try scorers were Jordan Mckay, two, Jake Horan , Archie Fleming. Goals Ellliot Dean, two.

Rochdale Mayfield 30 Leigh East u12 0

A TOUGH day at the office for East under 12s away at a determined Mayfield side who continued to force errors throughout the game.

Leigh East u11 24 Widnes Moorfield 18

IN a tough-fought battle East come away with a deserved win.

The forwards defended and attacked well with Liam Ogden and Callum Thorpe imposing dominance in the middle of the field.

Strong runs saw Ogden go over for the first of two tries.

A determined Widnes side pushed back into the game but a full-length try from Adam Jones sealed the victory for East.

A strong team performance.

Haresfinch 10 Leigh East u10 4

EAST under 10s started off slowly by conceding four tries before Caleb Wallace finished off a good move.

Then he doubled his tally in the second half.

Sam Cozens and Cameron Croft did well defending the line for East Plus the team didn't stop fighting till the last whistle.

Latchford Albion 4 Leigh East u9 4

AN excellent performance from the under nines who took on a big Latchford team in Warrington.

Great defence from the team who eventually came away with a 4-all draw.

Player of the match was Jack Edge.

Leigh East u8 v Clock Face

A POOR East defence allowed Clock to win the game despite a big defending effort from Josh Hopkins which earned him player-of-the-match for the third week on the trot.

Ryan Kelleher was awarded best run for his storming efforts which lead to his try and Billy Southworth most improved for a massive step up in his game against a well-drilled Clock Face team.

TWO evenly-matched sides played a great game.

East worked hard to break the opposition's line with good direct running and the defence produced some big tackles.
