PAUL Rowley believes his Leigh Centurions side should fear no-one after they extended their club-record winning run to 25 matches following a stunning victory at Wakefield in the Challenge Cup.

The Kingstone Press Championship leaders came back from 22-0 down to beat the Super League basement club 36-30 and set up a quarter-final clash at Warrington Wolves.

They now head into a re-run of last season’s Championship Grand Final against Featherstone Rovers on Sunday – the last game of six matches at this weekend’s “Summer Bash” at Bloomfield Road in Blackpool.

Their opponents lost a tight match at Catalan Dragons in the Challenge Cup but are fourth in the Championship table following a run of four straight wins.

But the Leigh head coach is confident his players will chalk off another victory if they maintain their focus.

"Whilst we talk about the form of other teams, I think it's important as a group that we remind ourselves that with our form, we can't get any better,” he said, after recording a second straight victory over Super League opposition in the Challenge Cup following a win against Salford Red Devils in the previous round.

"There isn't any better form in rugby league, no matter what division you are playing in.

"We needn't fear anybody, it is all about us and if we perform on the day then destiny is pretty much in our own hands.”

Rowley does not believe, however, it is a foregone conclusion his side will repeat the 40-6 win they enjoyed at Featherstone in the reverse fixture in March.

He highlighted the expensively-assembled squad Featherstone have put together in a bid to force their way into the end-of-season Super League promotion play-offs.

The Yorkshire club added Australian pair Sam Irwin and Ryan Verlinden on two-year deals before the start of the season and recently recruited former NRL star Reni Maitua.

“They are an expensively assembled team to be fair. They have a huge squad, they just keep rolling them out,” said Rowley.

"Ultimately, it's a fixture against Featherstone, which historically is a very difficult one, highly contested and it will be no different this week.

“Featherstone are in tremendous form at the moment, we are aware of that and they are too.

"They are very much talking themselves up in their quarters so we'll prepare well and go in confident.”

Leigh’s game against Featherstone should provide a fitting finale for the Summer Bash, which includes six Championship matches played over Saturday and Sunday, all televised live on Sky Sports.

It is the second straight weekend Centurions have had the chance to showcase their talents in front of a television audience following their Challenge Cup triumph, which was shown live on the BBC.

Rowley was full of praise for his players following that spirited display.

"It's brilliant,” he said. “All credit to the players, they have been fantastic. They've really got a good sense of belief and there is good spirit in the camp.

“Well done to them, it's a wonderful achievement."

The Centurions boss hopes to strengthen his squad further ahead of their quarter-final tie at Warrington, which will be played on the weekend of June 25-28.

They have had an approach for Wolves hooker Mickey Higham, a former Leigh player, turned down but remain eager to complete the deal.

And number nine Lewis Foster this week signed a contract extension to remain at the club until the end of the 2017 season.
