LEIGH Centurions travel to Bradford Bulls on Sunday knowing a sixth straight victory in the Kingstone Press Championship will clinch the title.

Paul Rowley's men have bounced back superbly since London Broncos ended their club-record winning streak at the start of June.

They added another two comprehensive victories over the past week – beating Featherstone Rovers 52-18 on Sunday and Hunslet Hawks 72-6 last Wednesday.

Those two wins helped Centurions open up a two-point gap at the top of the Championship after second-placed Bulls slipped to a second defeat in their last three matches at close rivals Sheffield Eagles.

Bradford have just two games of the regular season remaining, compared to Leigh's three, so they know the title will be out of reach if they lose what is being dubbed as the "Battle for the Championship" in front of their home fans at the weekend.

In truth, the Bulls have a 115-point differential to make up and, with the Centurions having two home games to come against mid-table Dewsbury and basement club Doncaster, Rowley knows phase one of this season's plan is almost complete.

There are bigger battles to come, of course, with Leigh heading towards the middle-eight competition as they bid to secure their passage into the Promised Land – the Super League.

But the Centurions coach paid tribute to his squad for the work they have done in getting this far.

"I think our squad has been key. Good squads usually win things," he said.

"We've got a good squad, a very supportive squad.

"The lads that don't play support their team-mates with genuine good feeling.

"We are in a good place at the minute in terms of form, team spirit and fitness as well – it's all looking good."

Rowley moved to strengthen a winning hand this week by signing Melbourne Storm forward Dayne Weston on a two-year contract, starting in December 2015.

He also shuffled his pack further, releasing back row forwards Anthony Bate and Craig Briscoe from the final stages of their contracts to allow them to join Barrow on a permanent basis.

Another second row, Jamie Tracey, was allowed to join the Cumbrian club on loan move for the remainder of the season.

Looking ahead to a possible Super League tilt next season, Rowley said: "I am delighted to add Dayne to our 2016 squad and am looking forward to him adding good value to our group both on and off the field."

Weston, aged 28, began his NRL career in 2007 and has notched up 80 top level games, playing for Cronulla Sharks, North Queensland Cowboys and Penrith Panthers before making 16 appearances for Melbourne since joining them in the middle of last season.

"Melbourne are a club renowned for their excellent culture as well as their enterprising brand of rugby league," added Rowley.

"So as we endeavour to progress and better ourselves he is just the calibre of person we are looking for."

Centurions' head of rugby Derek Beaumont is also buoyed by the capture.

“Having spoken at length with Dayne I was very impressed with how thorough he was about coming over here and ensuring everything was right for his wife and two young children," he said.

"He clearly has the values we embrace as a club and his rugby ability is there for all to see in a proven track record.

"It gives me great pleasure to be able to convince proven quality top-level players to join our great club ahead of other higher-placed interested parties."
