CHRIS Hill will lock horns with his former club Leigh Centurions as a captain for the first time this weekend.

Hill, who joined Warrington Wolves after a Northern Rail Cup winning 2011 season, has been named club captain for the 2016 campaign and is looking forward to carrying out the duty for the first time when Leigh visit The Halliwell Jones Stadium for the Simon Grix Testimonial match on Sunday, kick off 3pm.

“Without Leigh giving me a chance when I was 16 or 17 I wouldn’t be in this position now,” said the prop who has gone on to star for his country and never forgotten his roots.

“I’m always grateful to Leigh and I’ll never forget where I’ve come from. They’re a great club and I think they’ll do well this year.”

Hill is urging supporters to get behind Simon Grix’s Testimonial match, to repay a man for his sterling service to the game.

“I’ve come through my time at Warrington with Grixy and he’s an absolute champion bloke. I love the bloke to bits and he’d do anything for anyone.

“I hope there’s a really good crowd on for him because he deserves it.

“It couldn’t have worked out any better, especially with our former Warrington teammate Micky Higham being captain of Leigh this year too,” said Hill.

“It’s going to be a good day and Testimonial games always mean a lot to everyone.”

While it will be another chance to check out new faces in the Leigh ranks, following on from Sunday’s win over Wigan, Wolves will be handing home debuts to a host of signings including former Australia international Kurt Gidley, ex-Hull and Castleford back rower Joe Westerman and Super League’s second highest try scorer of 2015, Tom Lineham – another recruit from Hull.

The MBS Site Supplies Challenge Cup is up for grabs as the clash marks Grix's 10-year career, good character and service to the community within and around rugby league.

Grix, now a member of Wolves' backroom performance team, made 179 appearances and scored 48 tries for Warrington between 2006 and 2014 after signing from Halifax.

Although making his comeback as a part-time player with hometown club Halifax in the Championship this year, Grix, who has been the ultimate utility and team man for The Wire, has not played since a horror spiral fracture of both the tibia and fibula in his left leg in a win at St Helens 16 months ago.

Leigh gave Tony Smith's men a tough test in the Challenge Cup quarter finals last June before falling 34-24.
