LEIGH chief Neil Jukes insists end game success is more important than wrecking Bradford Bulls’ unbeaten start to the new Kingstone Press Championship season at Odsal on Sunday.

But he has promised Centurions will carry an equal measure of energy, passion and aggression into the division’s match of the year so far.

The Bulls boast the Championship’s only 100 percent winning record, helped by a nine-try, 48-16 demolition of Swinton last Saturday. Leigh, after a 24-20 great escape over London Broncos, are fifth, one of six clubs on four points.

“We want to go to Odsal and win and if we don’t we will all be hugely disappointed,” said Jukes.

“But it’s two points on offer; nothing else will be won or lost.

“I am sure (Bradford coach) Jimmy Lowes will be saying the same thing.

“We won the Championship by six points last season and won only one game in the Middle 8s.

“There were teams who crawled into the top four but who finished above us in the Middle 8s.

“Finishing top last year didn’t do us any favours regarding our fixtures. So, I am happy to crawl in fourth and get into Super League rather than finishing top and not.”

Leigh won 36-24 at Leigh Sports Village and drew 36-all in last season’s two league games against the Odsal outfit.

But when it came to the crunch a Jake Mullaney hat-trick helped Bradford to an unlikely 32-16 win in the Middle 8s.

There’s certainly no love lost between the clubs and happily for Leigh there are no disciplinary repercussions from the penalty fest against Broncos, including sin-binnings for Dayne Weston and Jake Emmitt.

“I expect it to be tough, I expect it to be intense,” agreed Jukes.

“Where that leads to, who knows?

“We have just seen two world championship sides, in Leeds Rhinos and North Queensland Cowboys, throwing punches.

“There will be a lot of passion on both sides because there are plenty of guys who are winners and want to win the game.

“When it does that it brings out all the testosterone.

“We will go there to play hard, go there to be aggressive and with lots of energy.”

Jukes will check on the fitness of Martyn Ridyard and Cory Paterson, both missing from the London game, before naming his team to tackle Bradford.

But he was relieved his side’s lengthy injury list didn’t increase after the Broncos’ win.

He was delighted too by Richard Whiting’s start to his two-month loan spell from Hull FC.

“It was a quick turnaround for Rich and he dealt with it outstandingly,” confirmed the Centurions boss.

“He made over 30 tackles as a centre and only missed two.

“Because we are only one injury away from a crisis across the back line, he has great ability to fit into any of those positions.”

Leigh have received an initial allocation of 980 terracing tickets for the Odsal clash.
