NEIL Jukes has put his team on Danny Brough alert but warns Huddersfield are anything but a one-man show.

And the Leigh boss steadfastly refuses to hype up his team’s brilliant start to the Middle 8s that has left Centurions on the threshold of Super League.

Victory over Rick Stone’s visitors at Leigh Sports Village on Saturday will be good enough to clinch promotion.

Defeat and Leigh will drop down to third, albeit still in an automatic place to go up.

Former Man of Steel Brough returned from a two game suspension to contribute 16 points and handful of assists in last Friday’s 40-4 win over London Broncos.

“Danny can singe handedly rip teams to shreds,” confirms Jukes whose 17-man squad is unlikely to show too many changes to the one that came from 12-down to beat Hull KR 25-18 last Saturday.

“But there are a lot of other players with good qualities as well; the likes of McGillvary, Cudjoe, Symonds, Wardle and Hinchcliffe.

“While I have no doubt they will respect us they will fancy their chances

“They are not called the Giants for nothing and with that they play football as well.”

After losing their opening game to Salford, Huddersfield have won their last three games, stacking up 160 points against Batley, Featherstone and London.

“Our effort and attitude will have a big say in how we go against Huddersfield,” agrees Jukes. “But we need a big performance too because one without the other won’t be enough.

“So, I am not getting carried away one bit. I have not thought what might and it’s been important to let the players know that as well.”

Former Leigh favourite Ryan Brierley could miss playing against his old club for the first time.

After featuring in Giants’ wins over Featherstone and Batley, he was left out of the squad that beat London.

And Jukes remains non committal on the success or otherwise of Brierley’s decision to quit Centurions earlier this year to step up a grade.

“Every past player who has been here I do follow their careers whether they are in the Championship or Super League,” he said.

“But I don’t get into the realms of who is playing well and who isn’t.

“I have not got enough time on my hands to worry about our players’ performances never mind anyone else’s.

“Huddersfield saw something in Ryan they liked, he did well for Leigh and we wish him well. But he won’t be the last player to leave Leigh Centurions and move on.”

Centre Greg Worthington, who hobbled off before the end of the win at Craven Park, has recovered and available for selection. Fuifui Moimoi and Travis Burns are also now fully fit.

n Jukes and Micky Higham are in the running for two of the most prestigious prizes at the annual Kingstone Press Championship awards.

Jukes is shortlisted with Batley’s John Kear and Ian Henderson of London Broncos for Championship coach of the year. Higham is up against Dom Brambani of Batley and Misi Taulapapa of Featherstone for Championship player of the year.

The winners will be revealed on Monday – Higham’s 36th birthday. And the Centurions captain says winning promotion with his home town club will rank alongside anything he has achieved in a career spanning nearly two decades.

“I can tell you it would be up there with the pinnacle,” he says of Leigh’s impending return to the big league.

“I’ve played in Grand Finals, cup finals and I’ve played for my country but it would be right up there.

“You ask any lad who plays for his hometown club and they’d tell you how proud they’d be.

“So to be leading this group to four wins from four is very special and it would be incredible if we finished the job off now.

“It’d be great to get it done on our own turf with back-to-back home games. We’ve got Leeds last so it would be nice to tie things up before then but we’re only thinking about Huddersfield.”
